My nanny is due to have a colonoscopy on a Sunday at 1300. She has not yet been given the instructions. Anyone who has bad a colonoscopy, alprox what time will she ned to take the laxatives? And also would it have been possible to do a 1 hr journey? The hospital is one hour away

She needs to contact the hospital for instructions. Each place has slightly different instructions on diet and taking the prep.

Agree with above that she should have instructions sent to her along with the laxatives she needs to take from the day before the procedure.

I have now seen the instructions as my mum had them. She is to take two doses of Plenvu at 8pm the night before and the second dose at 5:30am

I guess each person is different in their response. I just want to know how she will manage the 1hr journey to the hospital

Have her put on some sort of adult nappy, like this one, and bring some along as well. Best to take a route where she might be able to get a rest stop, and allow extra time for the trip. Once those laxatives start, they can be unpredictable. Good luck.

As you say, different for all. However, from my experience of the the many many times I have done it, the prep works quickly and empties you out. So by the time you leave for the hospital at midday she should be fine to travel. Nothing left inside!

Thank you both for your advise.

Yes I was fine to do the hour drive to the hospital by the morning, but I was still slightly paranoid. However it's like your body knows when you're home it can empty completely - it's quite relentless - and then copes when it knows you're in the car. Hope she'll be ok. The prep is the worst part by some margin!

Absolutely fine to do a car trip. You are empty by that time. You don't need a nappy. If you are afraid of a bit of a leak, fold a big towel on the car seat.

Prepare the prep, and put the jug in the freezer. I find the cold prep easier to drink . Prepare the prep, and put the jug in the freezer.

If you have to travel, maybe tell her to do the second prep at 5 am instead of 5.30 so all the toilet trips will be done by then.

Be very strict with the low residue diet on the days before. And also on the clear diet on the Saturday. If you don't have much in you, there isn't much to come out.
