Has anyone ever had any experiences with an anal fissure? I've had one in the same place on and off for years, normally it's fine but every few years it flares up and I'm in agony at the moment.

I have a healthy diet, eat lots of fibre but nothing seems to work, Dr says to keep upping fibre intake but I'm starting to get concerned with the amount of blood I'm loosing after I go to the toilet (sorry if TMI).

Can anyone suggest any creams, ointments etc they have used.

Dulcoease (NOT DulcoLAX) every evening. It’s a stool softener so makes things a lot easier and allows it to heal.
Sudocrem can be applied if necessary. I was losing so much blood I couldn’t even see the bottom of the toilet, it was horrendous. Now at the first spot of blood I start dulcoease and it quickly clears up. I too have loads of fibre everyday but it does still flare up just occasionally.

Fibrogel works quite well. Cut out any white flour/ crisps etc. Up the water intake. It's no fun. Steroid suppositories can help heal but only work in the long term if stools are softened. Good luck. No fun!

Sorry I know this thread is a few months old but I was wondering can anyone see their fissures? What do they look like?
My health anxiety tells me I’ve been misdiagnosed, I know it’s probably fissures but I still can’t help but worry.
I can see mine even though they’re quite far in, if I investigate with. Mirror. They’re like holes/pockets (one has a horrible skin tag coming off it) and I was shocked at the size, not like a “small tear” which Google suggests.
Dr gave me rectogesic, been using this for around 3 weeks, have seen a little improvement but can’t understand how something so “open” can close with a cream 😩

The cream is mainly to relieve symptoms like pain and discomfort and if you can stop the symptoms long enough the fissure can heal. DH was given cream to use for 6 weeks, didn’t help at all. He then had Botox under anesthetic which worked, much to our surprise.
