Hormone blood tests

Can anyone help me make sense of these results please?

It states 'abnormal' but GP isn't available to discuss until the 25th.

I've not had a period since August, and with a history of early menopause in the family Gp suggested these tests.

Gonadotrophin level
Serum follicle stimulating hormone level 6.8 IU/L
Serum LH level 13.4 IU/L; Female FSH & LH reference ranges (from 21.07.15)

Follicular phase FSH 3.5-12.5 LH 2.4-12.6
Ovulation phase FSH 4.7-21.5 LH 14.0-95.6
Luteal phase FSH 1.7-7.7 LH 1.0-11.4
Post menopause FSH 25.8-134.8 LH 7.7-58.5
LMP not stated

FSH Level (6.8 IU/L):

  • Falls within normal range for:
* Follicular phase (3.5-12.5) * Luteal phase (1.7-7.7)
  • Well below post-menopausal range (25.8-134.8)

LH Level (13.4 IU/L):

  • Slightly elevated for follicular phase (2.4-12.6)
  • Within range for ovulation phase (14.0-95.6)
  • Above luteal phase range (1.0-11.4)
  • Below post-menopausal range (7.7-58.5)

These results do not suggest menopause because:
FSH is significantly lower than post-menopausal range
LH, while elevated, is not in post-menopausal range

Could be:

  • Potential anovulation
  • Hormonal imbalance requiring further investigation.

Based on the LH:FSH ratio, also consider:

Hypothalamic amenorrhea
PCOS

Thank you so much

The ‘abnormal” comment may relate to another blood test - when filed they can be grouped so all are marked as abnormal when some are normal. It’s potentially a filing error.

I had several tests and they were all filed separately. Most came back as no further action needed.
There's clearly something going on hormone wise as I've not a period since August.

Hopefully my GP will be able to tell me more.
