Argh I have piles and been prescribed a daily suppository. I’ve never had anything up my bum before (yep, I mean ANYTHING!!) Does anyone have any tips on how to put them in when you can’t see what you’re doing!?Doctor said I’d have to lie down on side and do them from behind due to where the piles are. So I won’t be able to look in a mirror. Do they go in easily?!?

I’ve used them once, I put one leg up on the toilet seat and then can easily insert the suppository from behind, this was easier than laying down for me.

You need latex gloves and lubrication. I did the foot on the toilet thing. It's really easy.

Lie on your side on the bed. Bring your knees up then hold the suppository in your fingers and feel for the bum opening. Gentle push it in as far as comfortable, using one finger, then squeeze your buttocks together, straighten up on the bed and lie still for about 5 minutes.

Thanks all. Don’t worry I won’t report back with all the gory details!

If it's basically a glycerine one, you can dip the tip in warm water to make it more slippery. Whatever you do, don't dunk the whole thing or it will become so slippery you'll be shooting it all over the bathroom.

Sit on the loo, take it off packaging, put the tip to bum hole and push in an inch or so. Clench as you stand, wash hands, job done. They go in easily. Use them fairly regularly on my own little bunch of grapes. 😉

Just do it while sitting on the toilet (assuming you can reach your bum). Wet the end a little with water if necessary. You don't need gloves or special lube.

Plenty of people. You're not digging for gold up there. The bullet only needs to pass the sphincter.

MissEloiseBridgerton · 12/02/2025 17:38

There's only one place for it to go so you don't really need to see! I'd go to the loo first.

But the poo 🤢 just me then?! When I use suppositories there is always poo on the glove when it comes out. Who would get that on them if they could help it?

If you're getting poor on your gloves, you're doing something wrong.

How far up are you going?? You really don't need to go further than your fingertip. As soon as you pass the sphincter your body sucks it up and does what it likes with it. Maybe it's a position thing.

Ilovelowry · 12/02/2025 17:54

@panda mine were to make me go to the loo so they needed to go as far as possible.

Also I do get retained stool due to prolapse surgery. So it could be that. I'd never used one before until after my surgery.

Aww you really don't need to push it up that high. It only needs to go in far enough so that it won't fall out. It doesn't actually stay where you put it. It melts pretty fast and the medication will work wherever it is. Prolapses definitely do change things though. It's hard to be completely empty. Even more impossible when constipated.

Ilovelowry · 12/02/2025 18:11

@PandaTime that reassures me that I don't need to contort myself to push it all the way up to my knuckle which is what I was aiming for!!!
