Root canal?

Hi! I need your help :( I was told I need a root canal (age 35) and I’m terrified because I’ve read so much negative stuff about this procedure online and how it can drain you later causing fatigue and all sorts of other health issues… does anyone have anything positive to say about them especially if they have had it for long enough time now without any of these symptoms others keep saying?

I've had two root canals, never had any issues. Went straight back to work after the procedure, no after effects at all.

Hi, I've had two root canal done, most recently about 5 years ago. I didn't have any negative after effects apart from tiredness the day after the procedure as it took quite a long time and I was quite tense during it.

I'm a complete wuss about injections so opted not to have any anesthesia but if that doesn't worry you I would advise you to have the numbing injection.

One was 15 years ago, and no issues

Eh?

It kills the tooth but leaves the carcass in your mouth so you won't have a gap. It'll not last forever but usually you get a good decade or so out of the tooth.

I had root canal on my front tooth after a fall and was absolutely terrified, didn’t feel a thing and took paracetamol once after. The plastic mouth sheet thing was a tad annoying but honestly felt nothing during or after.

BiggerBoat1 · 10/02/2025 21:57

I had root canal a year or so ago. No ill effects except for very sore, aching shoulders from being so tense for a couple of hours.

I think the OP has gone down a filling rabbit hole saying that they can cause long term health issues.

I've had 3/4. One in the same location twice and on that had the rare complication of a "hook" or double root. They are no biggy, plenty of numbing injection. Tired and a little sore after.

I've had a few. Better than losing a tooth

I’ve just had one done this afternoon. It was easy, and I’m in no pain whatsoever!

Gloriousgardener11 · 10/02/2025 22:24

I had one about seven years ago with a crown.
I was also very worried about the procedure as I’d heard so many horror stories about them so I watched one being done on a website and it somewhat alleviated my worries.
It’s been fine.

Thank you! Have you had any health problems at all like feeling fatigued or higher levels of anxiety or just unexplained symptoms that could maybe be due to the root canal? That’s my main concern

DH had one Friday lunchtime last week.

We went out that eve for a meal and he was fine. No complaints.

For context he’s able to drape himself in a dressing gown of doom for the merest of sniffles and can easily take to his bed for days with anything resembling a virus. hopefully this helps!

No I haven’t had any other health problems at all, everything has been fine.
