Cut finger - will the tip survive? **TW** Photos

On Friday morning, I cut the tip off my ring finger with a mandolin. I found the piece, which was about 3mm thick, and I've stuck it back on with Steristrips (mainly because that was the only way to get the bleeding to stop).
Do you think the loose piece will survive, or should I take it off to let the bottom 'breathe'? It does have a dressing on but I changed it today.

The mandolin is known as the widowmaker in our house! Well done for saving your finger.

Thanks for the update OP. I wonder if the skin just grew around the tip? Did the tip ever dry up and shrivel off? I can't understand how it would re-attach blood supply etc to the cut off part? Looks to be on mend though which is the main thing.

Possibly, but nothing has come off at all. The very outer layer of skin is slightly crispy but otherwise it seems to have reattached. It's been under a dressing throughout and other than a bit of gunge, I haven't seen anything un the dressing suggesting it has fallen off?

Initially just one side had blood flow (see below), and now in the last few days the whole thing has pinked up.

Oh my, I've just eaten my lunch and looked at this thread 🤢

My dh is a chef and got a new mandolin last year. I have refused to touch it, I'm clumsy at the best of times. I remember about 8 years ago calling him in a panic after cutting my finger on one of his knives and I nearly passed out. He bought me my own little knife and although he sharpens it for me, it's not sharp like his other knives.

Glad you're OK OP x

Do not approach the mandolin!
I think professional training is required to operate those things!
