Campylobacter 3 weeks ago - anyone had this?

I had this 3 weeks ago. Confirmed by GP. I’ve recovered with the exception of my bowel movements. It’s like my bowel has completely shut down. I am struggling to digest food. I feel really bagged up. I am constipated but that comes on really quickly. I had friends for dinner on Saturday and was careful with what I ate as I can’t seem to eat a big meal at the moment. I had some steak, salad a few chips, some crisps and two mouthfuls of pudding. One glass of wine. I couldn’t sleep Saturday night and then going to the loo yesterday morning was awful. I ate a slice of toast yesterday morning and that was it, I just wasn’t hungry until about 8 pm. Again I only ate a little. This morning I am completely bagged up again and can’t seem to digest food - or that’s how it feels.

I am not sure if this is just a case of taking something like senokot or a call to the GP back.

Have you tried any probiotics? My partner had campylobacter a couple of years ago and the GP insisted he had them to help build his gut health back up.

I reckon it took me 5-6 weeks to get over Campylobacter food poisoning and for my digestive system to get back to normal. It seemed ridiculous at the time but that’s how long it took.

Yeah. @Trinity69 is right. Get some probiotics, and concentrate on eating gut friendly foods too.

My husband had it about 15 years ago horrific illness, anyway he took weeks to recover and I remember him only eating scrambled egg and drinking lemonade for a while till his appetite came back.

It took me about 6 weeks to be fully confident in leaving the house without checking access to toilets beforehand wherever I was going.

Go easy on the rich food, and eat lots of yogurt. Campylobacter is hell.

I had triple therapy after H.Pylori. Only thing that helped after that was taking Optibac for about a month.

Thank you. I will nip to the shops for some probiotics and see if they help.
