I had chest X-ray on Thursday late afternoon. I suffer from complex chronic lung disease so it was to check up if anything happening inside as have a bad chesty sounding cough since October.
How quick to get the results?
They said 6 weeks but surely that can’t be right?
If they would find something sinister or unusual like pneumonia or much worse, would they contact me earlier, like by now?
Is pulmoral fibroses or tumor visible on it?
I keep checking the nhs app but nothing…
so worried…

Our results are usually within 5 - 7 days. 6 weeks seems a long time.

Hippopotas · 08/02/2025 13:16

I’d imagine the 6 weeks will be if it flags up something normal or more routine but they will contact you sooner if they see anything of concern

DH had one in December and it was with the GP next day. He had another last week and it's not back yet.
If they told you 6 weeks they must know.

My mum's were looked at within 15mins of being done at the chest clinic I took her to recently!

Chewbecca · 08/02/2025 14:15

Mine was on my NHS app in a couple of days. I guess is a different situation if they say weeks, perhaps is going via a consultant or something?

2chocolateoranges · 08/02/2025 14:21

I was sent for a chest x ray his week due to a prolonged cough. Was told to expect the results back within 2-3 weeks. I

Winterdramas · 10/02/2025 11:02

@Chewbecca only through GP.
It said 6 weeks before I actually had the X-ray done, the GP sent me text saying this with confirming that I was sent for X-ray. The radiologist confirmed it will go to GP.

I posted above. DH had one last Wednesday and the result was on the NHS app by Saturday (the result went to GP who put it online).
I had an xray on Tuesday (we've both been dogged by chest infections since November). My GPrang me today with the result.

Winterdramas · 10/02/2025 16:26

@boope were you and your DH results ok?
I mean if not - I wonder how long they took to contact you if result was abnormal?

One was abnormal, the other was ok. Both back in under a week.
The abnormal one says no evidence of tumour but possible infection.
This will depend on how up to date your hospital is. Some years ago I had one that was abnormal and they rang me to go for a CT scan.
The usual rule is if it takes a long time it's because it's ok and not a priority.

May I ask what your lung condition is? I have bronchiectasis and asthma so prone to infections. However I've been to GP 4 times since November and only just got referred for xray.

It might be worth asking the GP if they've heard after a couple of weeks.

I have allergic aspergiloses and also severe asthma with some bronchiactasis.
I am having a bad flare up since November too, I went to gp 4x already, finally got referred for Xray last week…
still heard nothing ( Xray was Thursday 3.30pm.
