I was just doing my nails, I butchered my cuticle as you can see from the photo, when I was looking I noticed this line through my nail. I have noticed it before but didn’t think too much of it. Well of course I’ve googled and now I’m in abit of a frenzy!!!
it says online melanoma is brown/black in the nail but mine is purple/red. I’ve definitely had it for a while.
i will of course see the GP! God I’m worried nown

My question is, has anyone else had one?

Is that a line under the nail or a ridge on the nail. Hard to tell if it’s just a shadow from the photograph.
if it’s an actual line under the nail, then visit your GP. If it’s a ridge, they are fairly common and I have them too.

I get these lines occasionally, I also get bouts of alopecia and this usually occurs just before.

I think it’s a ridge, it’s a little bumpy over the line? It honestly didn’t look as dark until I buffed my nail and did my top coat. I understand what you mean, it looks on my nail not underneath it x

I’ve just done my gel nails as I have an event tomorrow otherwise I would have left it off! I’m going to remove that gel on that nail tomorrow evening so I can have a proper look

Omg how to put the shits up someone ffs!

@Omgggimworrying try not to worry until you've either seen the GP or done an e-consultant.

Thank you I’ll sleep well tonight 🙈

A ridge on the actual nail is nothing to worry about, some people are just prone to ridged nails. The melanoma thing is a dark line on the nail bed itself under the nail and that doesn’t look like your picture at all. Several of my nails have vertical ridges and I just smooth them if I’m doing my nails.

@tothelefttotheleft looks like you did

LushLemonTart · 14/02/2025 10:25

@Omgggimworrying did you get it checked?

ChristmasPudd1990 · 14/02/2025 10:59

It wouldn't hurt to make a GP appointment to at least put your mind at rest,or even get a pharmacist to have a look first.

Omgggimworrying · 14/02/2025 14:57

Hi sorry yes I did get it checked
its basically trauma to my nail bed, it’s caused a large raised ridge, there’s actually no colour to it, when you press is the colour fades completely so it’s like blood/trauma/a scar type thing, I actually remembered I really badly hurt my nail a while ago and it split all the way down x
