Perimenopause- low bp

Els1983 · 05/02/2025 13:03

As the title says, I'm going through peri (dr confirmed), and recently I've noticed my bp has fallen. It was always low (115/68), but now it hovers around 100/55. This can sometimes make me feel lightheaded but the GP doesn't seem concerned.
Has anyone experienced anything similar with peri? I thought it was meant to increase bp so I'm a bit confused..
Unless something else is causing this..

Yep. Mine is now pretty low, although I’m also fairy slim too which doesn’t help.
I wear knee length compression stockings, it helps to stop the dizziness so I don’t keel over. I was also advised to increase my salt intake, but I just can’t do it. I occasionally have the dissolvable electrolyte tablets in some water which also helps when I’m really dizzy.

@TacticalEvasion that's really interesting to hear as I'm pretty slim too. Can I ask how old you are? And what your BP is? I struggle to get my diastolic above 60.

I’m early 50’s, have been through surgical menopause and I’m on HRT if it’s relevant, but I’m the very low end of my BMI and struggle to gain weight.
Readings vary, I can be as ‘high’ as 112/63 or as low as the pictured 93/44.

Ahh, forgot about the photo ban, but they it’s under review so they may post it later I suppose.

@TacticalEvasion your bp is similar to mine. Can I ask when your low bp or has it always been like this?

No it wasn’t always that low, but then I was a stone+ heavier. I only lost weight post menopause and, at some point I was put on candesartan for migraines, within a week I could barely stand. I stopped taking the meds but it was only then I started checking my bp but I had been dizzy & lightheaded for a while, I just thought it was my usual low iron.

@TacticalEvasion Do you get breathlessness when your BP is low? This symptom bothers me the most and I think it's linked to the low BP
