Statins and effects on liver

Hi guys,

Was just looking for some more information with regards to Atorvastatin and its effects on the liver as I can't really seem to find much info online.

My mum started on Atorvastatin 9 months ago, had her bloods taken before starting and all was okay then after 3 months her ALP and ALT levels had increased- they then halved the dose and did more tests a month later but there was been only a small improvement - the next step is that she has been booked in for a liver ultrasound which has really started to frighten her, we lost my dad very suddenly at 57 a couple of years ago and I think we both carry a bit of health anxiety since.

Just wondered if any one has had a similar experience with statins.

Thankyou Smile

Yes, I recently had raised enzymes due to atorvastatin, went for a fibroscan which checks for any changes and all was fine. It doesn't hurt and takes minutes to do. Try not to worry, it's getting checked and that's the main thing. Raised enzymes are expected I think, I'm still on the statin.

Ah Thankyou that's really reassuring to know! Do you drink alcohol at all? My mum still has around a bottle of wine once a week so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.

I used to have a couple of glasses a week, but I've since stopped completely and my levels have dropped, so it might be worth cutting back if she can.

Thanks so much for your reassurance, she had the scan and all was fine, just the statins having an affect. Thankyou ❤️
