DH Thyroid issue?

DH has been having a few symptoms recently but despite me trying he is reluctant to approach the GP about it.
MIL has thyroid issues and I'm concerned this could be what is wrong with DH as a lot of his symptoms match up from what I've read, can it be hereditary?
He's early 30's and does have a very physical job but is always tired and could sleep for hours (sometimes 12+ a night) and still be exhausted the next day. He's irritable and short tempered all the time. Struggles to lose weight despite going to the gym multiple times a week, seems to hold all weight in his middle/face. Has heartburn a lot and an intermittent night cough but no cold symptoms. He also gets muscle aches and back pain regularly but puts it all down to his job. He often has a good few days where symptoms are milder but will then have a couple of days where they flare again.
Does anyone have experience with thyroid issues and this sounds familiar or have any idea what else this could be?
I will keep on about the gp as I have a gut feeling something more is going on here but atm it's falling on deaf ears 🙄

I take medication for my thyroid but I think you are coming at this from the wrong angle. It does sound like there might be something wrong but without blood work and a medical degree no one here can tell you what.
All you can do is encourage him to make a gp appointment and list his symptoms. If he won’t do that there isn’t much to be done.

@DaraForPope of course that's the only way we will know for definite, I'm not asking for a diagnosis just if anyone has experienced similar I suppose. I will keep on about an appointment.
