My ds10 is coeliac, I think it depends on your location in the UK for length of time on results, we're northern Ireland and ours took nearly 6 weeks but they did warn us it would be that long.

His symptoms were nausea, acid reflux, constipation, fatigue, dizziness, low iron, inflamed liver, occasional vomiting, reduced appetite, general aches and pains, stomach pain, feeling full easily, bloating - I think that's everything lol.

@Nogodsnomasters wow that’s a long time- I didn’t realise it would take that long. Bless him.

Thank you for the detailed symptoms, I hope he’s feeling much better now!

I think some areas of England the results may be quicker more like 1-3 weeks. Is it for yourself or your child?

He's been gluten free for 4 months since being diagnosed, the nausea/vomiting has stopped, the fatigue is improving slowly, the iron has returned to normal range but still the lower end so still supplementing, his appetite has increased thankfully but we still deal with dizziness and tummy aches frequently. His consultant said it can take a full year for the gut to heal. He also takes laxido for the constipation and omeprazole for the reflux so they are better controlled now. I'd love to say going GF is an instant fix but unfortunately it isn't.

@Nogodsnomasters a year is a long time but it’s nice to hear he’s improving in lots of ways. Iron is an important one so that’s good he’s body is now absorbing it and starting to heal. How long did he have symptoms for before diagnosis?

Its for me. I have low ferritin and vitamin d levels and have lots of gas. If I eat bread, porridge etc I am passing wind within seconds for a whole day and feel like I’m walking round with a bowling ball in my stomach at some points. Some times I get oily stools or mucus in them but next day normal again. Other days not so bad at all so I am unsure if it’s another type of intolerance as it can be very up and down.

My sibling is Ceoliac so that’s why I requested a test (GP wasn’t bothered much about investigating at all) . Strangely recently if I have marmite and get it on my skin I seem to come out in an itchy rash. It’s really random so I’m unsure what it could be.

@Nogodsnomasters & I am based in the south east of the UK (I didn’t ask when getting the bloods done stupidly)

My bloods, including celiac, were viewable on the app in just a couple of days recently.

Nogodsnomasters · 02/02/2025 20:33

@Cassiellax very sensible to be tested if your sibling has it and you have some symptoms which you definitely do! Hopefully you won't wait as long as we did on the results. If you haven't heard anything in a week or two you could try speaking to GP receptionist and asking if they know of the return timeframe for a coeliac test in your area.

Yes 12 months is a long time and when you're watching your child suffer you can be very impatient for "treatment" to work but it's a learning process. He'd had some milder symptoms for years which we didn't connect up and as they didn't present too much of a problem we didn't chase them up such as on/off constipation, mild aches and pains, occasionally dizzy but the more severe symptoms of vomiting, reflux and the issue with his liver and becoming aware of the iron deficiency started in February 2024. He was diagnosed end of sept 2024.

Cassiellax · 03/02/2025 08:46

@Chewbecca That’s good to know, thanks. My FBC is the only one that’s already viewable so hopefully not much longer.
