Feel like I'm dying with... something?!

Hi all,

I will say firstly I have severe asthma and am waiting for biologic treatment. May or may not be relevant but just in case.

So the past week or so I've been getting progressively unwell, not with anything in particular bar a little sore throat. I've done both a COVID and flu test because of my asthma and both neg which to be honest is no surprise as it doesn't feel like that. I've been feeling so weak, not exhausted, I'm actually past that, I feel weakness all over. My asthma isn't 100% but my peak flow isn't that bad currently.

For an example yesterday I slept for 6 hours in 3 separate naps, I couldn't stay awake, I actually fell asleep at my desk with my head in my arms and had to be woken up!! I then slept from 6pm - 9pm and then had something to drink and slept all night. I've napped again today too. (This is really out of character!)

I can't really explain it but I feel awful. I keep going freezing cold and then sweating but my temp is 37 and my oxygen is ok (oddly 95 at first for a bit then goes up to 99). I'm feeling intermittent sickness and coughing a lot. All that aside, it's really hard to decide what I'm supposed to do , if anything especially as these symptoms are so vague and difficult to describe.

I had bloods a few weeks ago at the gp and my ferritin is fine but they wanted me back in to be seen (eventually) for something to do with my full blood count but no idea what as receptionist wouldn't tell me. (Also probably not relevant! Sorry!)

Thanks if you've read all this!

Any ideas or wise words very welcome!

Rsv? That's meant to be bad this year

Why have you not gone back in? It could be very relevant to how you’re feeling now.

NikkiAlexander · 01/02/2025 19:27

What was your ferritin? Fine according to NHS is not necessarily optimal. Did you have B12 etc tested? Are you peri or menopausal?

Handhold8080nc · 02/02/2025 05:59

@Mushmemellow it's really difficult to get an appointment and she said I needed a routine one.
@Mushmemellow sorry for tagging twice! For some reason it won't let me untag you the second time!

@NikkiAlexander I've no idea. Unfortunately my surgery is strict about blood results and if you need to see a doctor they won't tell you what any results are until the doctor has seen you. I'm also in Wales where you can't see the results on the app.

I'm coughing a lot of stuff up today so I imagine I've got a bug or something. Also quite breathless at times so may actually have to ring 111 later.

HMPV is really bad this year as are flu A and B, as an asthmatic you'd be more prone to these kinds of viruses. It's not clear from your post why you think you are dying and don't just have a respiratory infection/flu illness. Most OOH/ED have the ability to do a rapid test for flu/RSV/Covid if you feel unwell enough ti get medical help, which presumably you do if you feel like you are dying. HMPV would need a proper sample in most places.

ZaraSkyTraveler · 02/02/2025 06:10

Not to worry you but if you actually feel like you’re dying and it’s not hyperbole, could it be sepsis?

Vera87 · 02/02/2025 09:09

Having survived sepsis and low temp is a symptom along with feeling like dying. I have to say I am compelled to comment get it checked- many red flags for sepsis.
I nearly died from it. Don't delay getting checked

Handhold8080nc · 02/02/2025 15:27

Sepsis crossed my mind but I've not got an infection I'm aware of

It sounds as if you have the neverending bug that is doing the rounds. I finally got rid of it after just under 5 weeks.

Gloriainextremis · 02/02/2025 15:32

OP, if you have a sense of impending doom, then you need to get medical advice as soon as possible.

Hiccupsandteacups · 02/02/2025 18:09

Tbh I’d call 111 or make a gp appt in your shoes

GreatFish · 02/02/2025 18:16

Could possibly need b12 injections your symptoms sound very similar to my daughter who constantly slept had no energy.

Handhold8080nc · 03/02/2025 07:40

Thank you all so much.

I may ring the GP at 8, see what they say. Still not feeling great but vague symptoms and difficult to describe, bar the coughing.
