Oramorph, has anyone taken it?

I was prescribed this today and I’ve never had it before. I take co-codamol on occasion for pain, the prescribed ones. But the pain is just awful at the moment. While I was at my weekly nurse appointment she could see I wasn’t my usual self and asked what pain relief I’m on. She said it’s clearly not enough and got the GP to do me some Oramorph.

I am going to take some at bedtime just a bit wary of it.

Thank you, it does say on the label take 2.5 or 5ml so will take the 2.5 can always have a bit more if I’m okay. I’m only 4ft 11 and 7 stone so think half a dose will be enough.

If that's 2.5 ml it's equivalent to 5 mg morphine which is still quite a lot. Be cautious. What's it for?

grace2025 · 31/01/2025 23:40

Pemphigus?

Pemphigus?

No it’s not phemigus, they did investigate for that and I had a biopsy but it’s not that.

I was on it.. but found the taste and texture awful.. so now I'm on morphine patches ... no side effects.. just helps with my brutal pain..

rollon20again · 31/01/2025 23:43

Weird feeling. Definitely helped with pain management but I felt really odd, like someone was leaning heavily on me, pushing against me legs, chest and head

grace2025 · 31/01/2025 23:46

Just take care - if you haven't had it before I personally wouldn't give more than 2.5 mg ( that's 1.25 ml) per six hours with no other sedatives

HappyWhenItsSnowing · 31/01/2025 23:47

Personally didnt work for me

I find it weak and only works for break through pain
To have a bath or something like that

ScaryGrotbag · 31/01/2025 23:47

Fucking wonderful stuff, despite the fact u need anti emetics and antihistamines alongside it. NO WAY would I drive in it however!

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 31/01/2025 23:56

The constipation is REAL.
Increase your vegetable intake, drink lots of water, get some magnesium citrate supplements in you and maybe even some laxatives in ready.

Puppymom · 01/02/2025 00:10

Had it after knee surge ray for a while. I was in a different place but I woke up feeling awful. I hope you get some rest.

Pigeonqueen · 01/02/2025 00:23

I’m surprised at people saying it tastes horrible- I thought it tasted amazing, like an adult calpol! Maybe I was lucky in hospital and got a special flavoured version or something. I’ve had it lots of times, I’ve had lots of surgeries and pain issues (lupus related). I wish I could be on it all the time 🙈😂 have to make do with strong Cocodamol mostly.

CoralHare · 01/02/2025 00:23

Yes, I’ve taken it twice. It works well for pain that codeine won’t touch. I was worried about getting addicted or something but in both cases it relieved the pain and I stopped taking it when I didn’t need it with no issues at all.

Surelythistime · 01/02/2025 00:25

I think I got this when I had appendicitis and don’t remember any ill effects tbh!

I vaguely remember it being nice too

CoralHare · 01/02/2025 00:27

Mine didn’t taste horrible either. Maybe there are sugar free versions and sweeter versions.

Theonlyremainingbiscuit · 01/02/2025 00:29

Gave me really intense stomach pain. I’m never taking it again.

faithbuffy · 01/02/2025 00:30

I take it most days with paracetamol, naproxen and dihydrocodeine and find it fine

HappyWhenItsSnowing · 01/02/2025 02:31

It tastes vile

Nat6999 · 01/02/2025 03:50

I had the intravenous version in high dependency for 48 hours after having ds. Apparently I just kept on waking up asking exh if he had just arrived & passed out again & repeat for all the time I was on it. I can't remember much at all.

Glitchymn1 · 01/02/2025 07:23

That sounds extremely painful OP, and very miserable.
How did you get on with it, has it helped?

I don’t remember it tasting bad either.

Thanks it is very painful. I just took the 2.5ml, I didn’t think it tasted too bad. It did ease the pain off and I eventually fell asleep at 1.30. I felt a bit dizzy but not sick or spaced out. Going to have some more now as the pain is building up again.

I’m also on steroid tablets at the moment that have completely messed my sleep up, so a dose will hopefully knock me out for a bit too.

When I first started on oramorph, I would take my evening dose and then set an alarm so I woke up to take the next dose before the pain came back. This meant the interruption to my sleep was a couple of minutes rather than a lot longer if the pain (and difficulty moving and getting comfortable) crept back in.

murraymcgill · 01/02/2025 16:07

@Yourinmyspot Hi it didn't even touch the sides for me it's a waste of time but hopefully it works for you GoodLuck

I hope you get some relief and rest. I also hope you get a better resolution. Keep fighting.
I’ve had eczema which has swelled and bled, split etc but I can’t imagine what you’re going through.
