Bare with me. I know this is probably a 'how long is a piece of string?' type question but I'm slowly losing the plot and would love to hear your experience.
Back in September, I had hand trauma surgery under the NHS and metal plates inserted into my hand. Frustratingly, after extensive physio, it was concluded that the plates were causing an obstruction and the function of my hand was decreasing. I'm also in excruciating pain and fumbling day to day in a haze of painkillers. I had to wait three months for this to be confirmed and then have x rays, CT scans etc until everyone was happy.
I have been listed for a second surgery but they've shared that as it's not considered to be a trauma, the wait is 12-16 weeks.
I have Private Health Insurance through my employer and managed to see the same Consultant privately. I felt really uncomfortable doing this but I can't really justify not exploring this route as I'm in and out of work due to the pain and meds.
The Consultant agreed to list me privately but couldn't give me a surgery date at that time. When asked he said 'within the next few weeks, maybe a month or so.....maybe a little longer!' 🙈 this was 2 weeks ago and still no date or pre op! I've already been listed with the NHS for 6 weeks, so the op dates could be similar!
Would you mind please sharing your experience? I don't know whether to twist or stick and I don't trust myself to make a decision as I'm in so much pain!
