Cholesterol levels

I’ve just had a health check and have received my blood test results online. My cholesterol results are

cholesterol level 6.8 mmol/l
HDL cholesterol 2.69 mmol/l
cholesterol/HDL ratio 2.5
non high density lipoprotein level 4.1 mmol/l

The result says ‘satisfactory/no further action’ but I thought 6.8 total cholesterol was high? I will try and talk to the Dr about but in the meantime I wondered if anyone could advise. I am 60 if that’s relevant.

Your total chol/hdl ratio is below 2.5 which is very good. That's probably why there are no immediate concerns.

I've recently had mine come out at just over 5 and been told that this is the point at which treatment might be considered.
Apparently they rate the chances of you having a 'cardiac event' over the next ten years, with 10% the baseline for my age. Mine was raised to 12%, which didn't strike me as very significant.
The statins I was prescribed, I tried two different ones, both gave me side-effects.
I saw a GP about something else who said not to worry, she is only concerned if the rate goes up to more like 20% and that I was fine to stop taking them.
I got a bit of hassle from the practice's own pharmacist which did make wonder, cynically, if they get some sort of incentive or bonus for getting patients onto statins....

Thanks both. I’ll follow up with the Dr.

@VeronicaBeccabunga - I haven’t been told what my risk factor is but maybe the Dr will be able to give me an idea.
