After years of wheat bran, half a sachet each morning is sufficient for me.

Wheat bran is the Devil's gravel. So harsh on the gut. Often causes more problems than it solves. Not surprised you prefer Macrogol.

There are other, far gentler, far tastier ways than wheat bran to keep sluggish bowels moving comfortably. Milled flax seed mixed into any wet food (eg soup or yogurt) or into a salad with lots of texture. I like this one, it is tasty. Dried fruit (prunes, figs, dates, apricots) or almonds with the skin on - a generous handful of any of these. Prunes are very effective, so a less generous handful of prunes. Prune juice made by covering your handful of prunes in 1-2 times that amount of water and soaking overnight (drink the juice in the morning and eat the prunes during the day) Olive oil added to food after cooking - not just salads, you can also mix it into your bowl of soup and drizzle it onto your pasta.

Have tried the lot, pear juice , figs too but all very filling that I did not enjoy breakfast and we walk an hour each morning. Runs in the family hemorrhoids but no doubt I will change again although GP prescribed macrogol.
