Colds and newborns

Hi, panicked mum of 14 day old and a three year old here.

DS1 has picked up cold and cough from preschool and can feel myself developing it too. I have health anxiety and can’t stop worrying about newborn becoming very unwell. What can I do? I am breastfeeding so hopefully can pass on some immunity to newborn through that. Please can anyone offer any reassurance or advice?
thank you

My 2 week old got a cold from his 2 year old brother last summer. Felt incredibly cruel for such a small baby to be all snuffly but he was fine.

I really do think the breastfeeding helps with immunity, my baby hasn't had nearly as many colds over the winter as the 2 year old has!

Thanks for your reply! That is reassuring. Sorry your little ones were poorly, glad they got through it ok!

My 2 week old got hospitalised for a week from a cold and I was semi breastfeeding so it's absolutely worth being aware of it , things to look out for his tummy breathing - look it up on YouTube if not sure what it looks like .
Also if the baby has stopped feeding or dramatically reduced feeding is a major concern .

I'm sorry OP that sounds so stressful, I also recently had a baby and they have been exposed to all sorts from my school aged child but they have been absolutely fine and I'm hoping it bolsters their immunity. Appreciate as PP said that in some cases baby could get poorly but I'm just sharing my experience of everything being fine, I'm sure you will be vigilant of any changes x

Also have a 3 year old and a newborn, my toddler had a raging temp and the flu the day we got back from the hospital and then I caught the flu! I've been bed ridden all week I've been so unwell. Also breast feeding.
I completely understand your worries , I've been the same but trying to tell myself it's pointless worrying as it won't change anything.
