Urgent blood tests for bruising and hair loss

As in the title, have just been referred for urgent bloods for bruising and excessive hair loss. Has been going on for around a year, was told to wait and see, supplements haven't helped, so went in and was seen again. Has anyone had the same?

Update - Surgery has just called me and also asked me to come back today and give a urine sample?

I had black bruising and hair loss. It turned out to be mild anaemia. I'm on iron. It all cleared up when I gave up wine too. I'm not suggesting you drink. That's just what happened with me.

Thank you! I'm already on iron and don't drink. Family history of thyroid problems but I've never had any myself. Because the tests are marked urgent I don't have to make an appt to get them done, but due to work can't go until Friday. So just pointlessly stressing a bit until then

It could just be that you are not absorbing your iron. Hair loss and bruising are both anaemia symptoms aren't they ? And it's common around menopause age as you probably know. They had me tested for macrocytosis and had me thinking I had leukemia and all sorts. I don't think the gps take into account how stressful it can be. . It could be something quite simple if they are your only symptoms. I hope you have a nice friend or partner to look after you. Try to do something nice for yourself tonight. Maybe a bath and relax a bit. I know it's hard. The amount of times I've worried myself sick over test results. Every time actually. Fridays not long now x

Thanks for your kind message x
Not menopause age yet but was thinking it could be hormonal
I agree that it's stressful even when rationally you know it's probably nothing!
Going to have a bath when the kids are in bed, watch a film and put it out of my mind

I hope your tests go well today, hopefully you will get your results soon so you know where you stand x

@Meyla Thank you, that means a lot, especially as I haven't talked about it with anyone IRL :) I had the tests yesterday morning. Since then three more bruises have appeared! Hopefully will get the results soon x

Hi, thanks for asking :) I got a message from the surgery saying due to global IT issues they can't give me my results and don't know when they will be able to...hopefully it will be resolved soon...

I hope you hear soon. It must be worrying for you x

hazelnutvanillalatte · 04/02/2025 12:24

Thank you! I did get the results back, all normal and not deficient in anything so that's good, but I have got a new bruise plus some blood when I blow my nose and gums bleeding when I brush my teeth...so will keep an eye and make a new appt if it continues x

Thats good news. At least you know you're bloods are ok. I wonder if it's a medication side effect . Anyway if they were overly worried they would let you know. I hope you can relax a bit now x
