MIL kissed baby on the head with a coldsore

My baby is 11 weeks old. We’ve seen MIL for the past couple of days and she’s been kissing him on the head. Today I passed the baby to her before realising that she’s now developed an active coldsore on her lip.

She kissed the baby’s forehead with the other side of her mouth to where the coldsore is, if that makes sense. And nowhere near his eyes/mouth/nose/any broken skin that I know of.

How worried should i be? I know how dangerous the virus can be to small babies, and if he got it, at the very least he’d have it for life, wouldn’t he?

DH and his siblings don’t get coldsores, so MIL must know not to kiss babies when you have a coldsore?

Please reassure an anxious FTM that the baby will be ok?

Grose however I am.sure it is only if they get kissed on the lips that it can harm them.

Sorry, me again. Would you say this looks blistery on the baby’s gums or is it normal? I’m really panicking about this coldsore saga 😣😔

Poor little love was just crying with overtiredness and has fallen asleep now - sorry, I know it looks awful with him crying, but he’s generally happy in himself, chatty, smiley, feeding well and no temperature, so I’m inclined to think he’s probably fine and it’s me being overly anxious…? That plus it looks like the bumps are symmetrical makes me think it’s just ordinary gum bumps that I’ve not noticed before?

Hi, I'm sorry I considered replying yesterday but I've just no clue, I think you'll need to ask a doctor. You can send photos online at our GP, can you do that?

I get cold sores, well I take antivirals but obviously still have it. I have had them jn my mouth once but the dentist and GP told me it was very unusual to get them in the mouth so I hope that helps. I think being symmetrical would also be unusual

Hope he's doing ok today.
