Weird heart spasm

Yesterday I was sitting down after breakfast and suddenly out of nowhere, I had what I can only describe as 2 heart spasms (have had palpitations in the past and it wasn't like this). Within a few seconds I felt very faint and as if I was going to black out. My heart rate was about 140 an hour after, but was back to normal by the afternoon. Would you bother doing an e-consult about this? I feel fine today and am hoping it was just a one off, weird episode.

Yes.

Please do. My husband collapsed and died because he didn't take his own symptoms seriously. Have you had the palpitations checked out?

ShrubRose · 19/01/2025 23:51

Go in. Let them listen to your chest, take some bloods, do an ECG and possibly fit you with a Holter monitor to record your heart activity over a few days. Hope resolves easily for you.

Are you on any medication with side effects?

JC03745 · 19/01/2025 23:57

I recently read that peri symptoms can cause palpitations. Get it checked out for sure though.

I've been getting these too recently but I don't feel faint after. I have no idea what they can be.

Yes go to the dr

A&E next time it happens and is active

LoafofSellotape · 20/01/2025 02:50

I would go to A and E, heart pain is serious and this isn't a typical menopausal flutter. Heart attacks are often missed especially in women.

Thanks everyone, I have put in an e-consult this morning, but if it happens again I will go to A+E. I am taking levothyroxine and have recently lost a lot of weight, so have wondered if my dose may need adjusting and may be too high which I think can cause some cardiac symptoms.

Well done for taking it seriously. I hope they can check you over and get you sorted.
