Still possible to get Flu vaccination?

Alltheyearround · 19/01/2025 19:08

I didn't get it in the autumn as I reacted to the Covid jab so wanted to give my immune system a little time to recover (and more avoid time off work).

Now I have asked 3 chemists and none of them has stock or have stopped doing it. Seems crazy given that hospitals are bursting at the seams with flu cases that have got really bad.

I'm a carer for a disabled child and I have CFS so flu and covid can floor me for months at a time.

You can book it online at a local pharmacy via the nhs website. Google nhs free flu jabs.

I had exactly the same problem just before Christmas. Called 2 pharmacies who said they don't restock after Chr, so if it's gone, it's gone. As you say, seems crazy with numbers so high. I eventually tracked down a pharmacy with 3 doses left. Keep hunting online, and try different postcodes to your own. You might find that you come across one with a few doses left. (Note to self to book earlier next year.)

Best of luck.

After Christmas!

I have asked, no where has stocks locally.

Note also to myself too! Though its tricky balancing in my case, for reactions/potential time off work.

You can no longer book a flu vaccination at a pharmacy using this online service.

Bookings can also no longer be made through the 119 service.

However.....

You can call 119 free of charge to find pharmacies still offering the flu vaccination. This service will close after 31 January 2025.

Had mine at a pharmacy last week

Fingers crossed I can track one down! Lost my dad to flu when he was only in his 30's so I am very aware that it can sometimes turn very nasty.

Alltheyearround · 21/01/2025 18:38

Have you tried your GP surgery? They may have some stock left.

Olika · 21/01/2025 18:50

DD and I had ours at our GP practise as no pharmacies were doing them.

TooManyNiblings · 21/01/2025 18:56

Yeah, they all went really quickly this season. We ran out by October 2024.

Soontobe60 · 21/01/2025 18:59

I was at my GPs yesterday - they had a notice up saying they still had space flu vaccines if anyone wanted it- ask your GP.

OhTheOrdinary · 21/01/2025 19:01

I gave two flu vaccines today.
Ask at your GP surgery if they are still doing them. We only had half a dozen vaccines for over 65’s left and a couple for the under 65 age range left.

Sunnnybunny72 · 21/01/2025 19:02

You should be eligible as a carer to have at your GP surgery. The programme runs until 31st March so they should have stock.

Sidge · 21/01/2025 19:31

Try your surgery. We have literally a dozen under-65 vaccines left - I work in a GP surgery.

The flu season runs until the end of March but we rarely have any vaccine left by the new year.

We massively campaign to offer all ours by Christmas, we want people protected by midwinter. We order it a year ahead so once it’s gone it’s gone and we don’t order any more.
