Skin spot - Has anyone had anything that looks like this?

Hello all, I’m mid forties and a few months ago this spot appeared on my leg. I just noticed it as I was shaving. I actually shaved over it and made it bleed, so it was sore.

I expected it to heal up. I even tried squeezing it. But nothing. It’s been a few months. I can’t tell if it’s grown or stayed the same. It’s about 2-3mm in diameter, so small but the redness makes it look pronounced.
It’s hard and raised a little. Seems round. Not generally painful, but as I said I keep shaving over it pretty much daily.

I’m going to book a Gp appointment this week, but wondered if anyone had anything similar, or recognised?

Any advice on getting rid appreciated. Thanks

It looks like a skin tag to me - they are caused by regular rubbing usually where your skin contacts another part of you. In the past when I was very overweight I got them on my neck and under my bra. Fairly easily removed by lasering.

However any changes to the skin should really be checked out by a GP. Just in case it is something more sinister.

Could also be an ingrowing hair if it’s an area you shave frequently.

Dermatofibroma, also have one on my leg. Dermatologist diagnosed (twice!)

Needmilkandbread · 19/01/2025 11:24

Thanks for replying. I don’t think it’s an in growing hair. When I’ve had those, they tend to heal a bit and then go back, heal a bit etc. This remains sort of the same.

My leg looks really chunky in the photos, because it’s on that fatty bit above the inside of the knee, but I’m not overweight, so there isn’t much rubbing in that area. Though it could be a skin tag.

I will definitely be getting it checked.

I was pregnant when mine came up about five years ago now. They said they could surgically remove it but I didn't bother. They don't go away on their own though.

I have just been looking at pictures of those on Google actually. Are they easy to get rid of?

It looks identical to mine

Needmilkandbread · 19/01/2025 11:26

Ah, so surgery or leave it.
Thanks for responding!
It’s in such an annoying place!

I also think it's a dermatofibroma, I've got a couple on my lower leg.
Apparently it's laying down of collagen from previous small wounds, and are more prevalent in women.
Get the GP to have a look to check it out though

It looks like a cherry angioma to me. I have one on my leg that started like that years ago. Now it is flatter and darker in colour. Doctor said nothing to worry about and no need to do anything with it. You should get it checked though, maybe ask at the pharmacy.

Needmilkandbread · 19/01/2025 11:33

Thanks all. I’ll definitely book a non-urgent appointment tomorrow. I might even just book in with a dermatologist. Really good to get a bit of insight though.

My GP assured me that they would flatten ut in time, and looking through my old photos, they definitely have
The photo with the tape measure is June 2021, and the other is just now, it's actually reassuring to see the difference, so thank you for making me check!

Very similar to something I have (also on my leg). Doctor told me it’s a scar. I don’t recall ever have anything there to scar from, but could have been a bite or something.

NanTheWiser · 19/01/2025 11:57

Another vote for dermatofibroma, I have one just above my knee.

OchreOP · 19/01/2025 20:20

Definitely looks like a Dermatofibroma, I’ve had one on my thigh for years!

Needmilkandbread · 20/01/2025 13:49

Thanks all. Have an appointment booked for next week.

I’ve got something similar that has come up on my arm last week, it’s already flattened, darkened and nearly gone, but it was annoying the first couple of days, so hope yours will by the time you see your GP.

Hello did you ever find out what it was please?

Hello did you ever find out what it was please?

Hi,
I didn’t find out what it was, my GP just said that it was nothing to worry about but that it would never go and to forget it.

So I bought one of those mole removal pens for £10 and took it off myself. Healed lovely and never grew back. Has been gone over a year now.

I wouldn’t tell someone else to do the same, those pens are not painless and create a small burn. Also, I knew my spot was nothing sinister before taking it off. However, for me it was a good move.

I agree.
I have one on my leg.

I also have melanoma elsewhere so I see a dermatologist regularly and she confirmed the one on my leg is a dermatofibroma.

However, please do get it checked OP because a useless GP mistook my original melanoma on my arm for a dermatofibroma which led to me then ignoring it for nearly a year.

Any skin lump needs checking and vigilance.

Edited to add, apologies, only just noticed the date and your update.
