Can't get my foot into any footwear with a heel.

I appreciate that this is a bit of a first world problem & quite random! Broke my leg & foot about a year ago, both healed. Lived in trainers & flat comfy footwear whilst recovering. I would now like to be able to wear shoes & boots with a bit of a heal (not stilettos) but my foot doesn't seem to want to 'bend' I think is the word. My foot won't arch or be at an angle in any footwear. I hope I'm making sense, it's stuck flat. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else & if any exercises were recommended. I would like to be able to wear slightly more glamorous sandals on holiday but think I might be stuck in flats forever! Thank you.

Poor you! Which bones in your foot and leg did you break? Can you bend your toes upwards?

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2025 18:09

I've not heard of that exactly. I can only wear very low heels because my big toes don't bend properly any more but that's due to dropping things like small boats on them over the years.

In your position I think I'd make an appointment with a podiatrist to see what they thought.

What did you break? Have your tendons etc in the ankle seized up? Did you have physio?

ETA - can you go up on tip toe? And control going up and down repeatedly and slowly?

I can bend my toes upwards but it's like the middle of my foot is solid, I did have physio but that was very much focused on getting me up & walking. I think the podiatrist might be a good idea. Thank you.

Well, the middle of the foot is fairly solid, can you point your toes evenly on both feet?

I can bend them but quite stiff compared to the other foot. I used to automatically do the foot physio watching TV, but haven't so much so I'll start those again.
