ds2 had an operation on friday in paris. he is brillant - all smiley and doing very well. he gas had neurosurgery and currently looks like a baby Inuit with a very round face and slanting eyes. he has been in icu but we are on a more normal unit now and it is all more low key. am stunned by sheer expertise here and incredible level of care, even if food is crapauds. reading Mitford girlies while he sleeps. first time have ever posted from mobile!

thank you - anna, i think i am ok for everything but would be happy to meet up for a coffee or something if he caries on improving. am veey relieved to have come out of itu - after a weekend in a place where it is not rare to see men weep. having lost a child I found it veey hard to be of comfort or to know what to say to the other parents.

I'm around and free tomorrow morning and Wednesday morning (daughter at school) - free between 9 and 11.45 - and also free on Wednesday afternoon (but with daughter). Thursday onwards is long weekend and we are off to Brussels / have various engagements.

WE ARE HOME! HUZZAH! HUZZAH!

ds2 had neurosurgery to correct his cranial sutures which had fused. He has a tin man scar but is very lively and smiley and has recovered amazingly fast. Op friday evening, weekend in itu, two days on a normal ward and home last night - by blue light ambulance which dealt very neatly with the Parisienne bank holiday traffic jams. Flashed and pangponged all the way home (600kms!). Very French.

Wonderful to be home but I do adore Paris. You could see the Eiffel tower from his hospital bed
