Thank you lovely ladies for those messages - they mean so much to me xx

What a worrying time with your ds paperchain, thank goodness they were benign but you must have been beside yourself.

mousemole his symptoms were nothing much until he had a huge lump in his neck that was his lymph gland becoming cancerous. The tumour started in his tonsil - very unusual apparently- and even though he had a tickly cough/ a bit of trouble swallowing for a few months we just put it down to running low. He prob had cancer for about 6 months before the lump appeared and we got it checked out. Hope this hasnt worried you at all, as we kept thinking it was the far more common infected lymph gland.

Thanks UC for the info. I wish you well and will be thinking of you all xx

lilyloo · 19/05/2008 20:05

UC good to see mruc is home , hows he doing ?

UniversallyChallenged · 19/05/2008 20:31

He is doing really well thanks lilyloo - docs very pleased with him. Eating solids already and even wanted to drive today - tho he parked way over the lines in the car park and we got a parking ticket for it I didnt want to knock his confidence by saying anything so my fault really. He finds turning his neck a bit hard still so didnt check properly. Heyho such is life - will appeal it and see.
Thanks for asking tho!

Any news yet triplets?

Oh UC, Mr UC is sounding so much better. I know you shouldn't laugh, but a small smile creapt upon my lips with hearing that Mr Uc got a parking ticket, I mean his neck must be so sore and driving involves a lot of neck movement, good on him for driving this soon after his op. I realise he has a long way to go, but compared to last Monday, wow!!! Keep up the good work.
I can remember fil saying to dh that it felt like his neck was re arranging its self, which strangely is what my ma said when she had her kidney removed. Hmm, maybe that is what happens when you have 'something' removed. Your little ones sound so brave, best wishes to you all.

UniversallyChallenged · 19/05/2008 21:48

mobile - are you ttriflenorks? sorry am easily confused, but it's what you said about FIL.

Btw - that's just what dh said it is like his neck is rearranging itself. And as for laughing about the parking ticket - shocking of you !! I tried to say to the warden "dh has just had neck cancer surgery and it's his first time parking ...." but i could see her thinking "oh yes, here's another one with an excuse" as i was saying it i thought "I wouldnt believe me either"

OP posts:
lilyloo · 19/05/2008 21:50

glad he doing ok , def appeal them tickets are very dodgy anyway!

mobileslostisitinthefreeze · 19/05/2008 21:57

Sorry, yes I am ttriflenorks.
I really am sorry, for smirking, but... I can just imagine you trying to explain!!
Mr UC is doing so well, but and I have been trying to think how to put this, just watch out for the post op slump. Mr UC could well of been running on adrenaline up to now, he could equally be fine, just keep an eye out.

UniversallyChallenged · 19/05/2008 22:14

ooh I will appeal - tho I know we were in the wrong. May as well tho!

Thanks again mobile - he has done a lot today and been sleep/resting since 8 so am taking dcs out tomorrow so he HAS to rest, he wont if we are all here!

sorry about the constant name changes, but to quote you 'get fed up with my name so change it regularly - nothing sinister, just to stave off the boredom of the same name!'

triplets · 20/05/2008 00:00

Appt today went well, but H looked awful so they took some blood. By 6pm tonight they wanted him back into the hospital 45 mins away where he had the surgery. He is severely anaemic, I stayed with him until 10pm, came back as the kids were upset, he has just phoned, they are giving him 4 pints of blood and are going to do an endoscopy, poor poor H

mobileslostisitinthefreeze · 20/05/2008 10:58

Oh trips, I have just read your post, I do hope Mr T feels better soon, blood transfusions are never nice are they. Heres hoping that today is a better day.

Just read this post UC, hope all is still going well. In a previous life I was a Macmillan Head & Neck Nurse so if I can help with anything please do say. Where abouts are you? Have you got access to a Head & Neck Nurse, we usually are an invaluable breed

UniversallyChallenged · 20/05/2008 21:24

theicepopqueen your counterpart that is looking after us is so so fab - really helped when the dianoses first came and with how to tell the children and what their reactions would be. Also with benefits - a minefield for us at the minute- and all sorts of things. You are all much needed and valued

OP posts:
mobileslostisitinthefreeze · 20/05/2008 21:37

They will give you some really strong gel for the mouth ulcers, you dilute it with water and swirl it around. By the christ it is strong stuff, fil gave some to dd (without my knowledge I might add ) for her teeny mouth ulcer, she choked on the stuff!
You can also ask the doc/consultant for a prescription for build up drinks, if you get the stuff though ask for NO chocolate as it is vile. DS is very thin and has the childrens version of the build up drink, we always ask for vanilla and put nesquik in it. I hope Mr UC and you have rested today.

UniversallyChallenged · 21/05/2008 21:30

build up drinks is a very good idea - have passed it on to him that mobile!

icepopqueen - is it usual to get a swollen shoulder post op? He has an infection and on antibiotics and in a lot of pain. His throat feels tighter too. Is this usual?

OP posts:
mobileslostisitinthefreeze · 22/05/2008 00:40

His shoulder sounds awful UC. Has he been told if he has an infection from the operation, or is this 'normal' (I don't recall dh dad getting this)
I wonder if his throat is so tight because the bruising has come out and it is swollen post op, or if that is an infection.
I missed a bit out of my last post, with ds and with fil too, to build their weight up, we have been adding a high calorific vanilla ice cream to the plain buildup (its called Ensure and its for adults) drink as well as the nesquik. Easyish to swallow, but more calories, but obviously he/you will no when the time comes for him to be able to drink it. Has he lost much weight?
Best wishes. Trifle

theicepopqueen · 22/05/2008 18:22

HI UC, sorry not on last night. Unfortunately if Mr UC has had a neck disection it is quite common to have a problem with the shoulder. It may just be related to the infection but it could be due to removal of involved tissues. His throat tightness could be to do with being dehydrated and the surgery at the back of throat can make things feel quite constricted unless he is drinking more. it would be a good idea to see the dietician - this should happen as a matter of course but there is no harming in prompting the matter.

mobileslostisitinthefreeze · 23/05/2008 18:45

I hope all is going well for you and Mr UC.

UniversallyChallenged · 23/05/2008 21:04

thanks trifle and the icepopqueen. He is ok today - feeling better now the anti-biotics have kicked in

theicepopqueen can i pick your brain again?! The hosp rang and he has to go for a CT scan next week - is this normal before radiotherapy starts? Do they normally check for any more cancer before it starts? He didnt ask why they wanted him to have the scan - just wondered if it could be related to the extra tests they told us they are doing on the tonsil they took out.
Forewarned is forearmed and all that

triplets - how are things going?

OP posts:
mobileslostisitinthefreeze · 25/05/2008 13:13

I asked dh dad and he had a ctscan before his radiotherapy. He also had a mask made so they could protect the rest of him.
I hope all is going well for you and yours, best wishes.
