Hip Arthroscopy - recovery?

Due to have surgery in a couple of weeks and have mixed advice on recovery and how long that might take! Can anyone share how their recovery went - eg crutches, driving, moving around generally?

Hey @jointproblems I had my first hip arthroscopy a year ago and due my second on the other side around March.

My recovery has been up and down. I found an improvement until about 6 months down the line when the pain has increased to pre operation levels again. They discovered arthritis during the op as well.

In terms of crutches I did about 6 weeks gradually weaning off. Driving was also about 6-8 weeks and until I felt confident doing an emergency stop. I felt a lot of what I would describe as a "catching" sensation which was uncomfortable. Moving was slow but you must keep up with painkillers and physio.

Hope it goes well

Thanks @MrsH497 - 6 weeks! 😮 I was told a few days by consultant and a few weeks by the nurse..... Might need to rethink my plans!

I was told the same thing don't worry. It just took me a bit longer! No idea how long this time will take me to recover as I'll be relying on my operated side which isn't at its best
