Probiotic for Immune System

14 replies

Piggles1979 · 12/01/2025 10:35

After a run of poor health over the last 6 months (flu, cold, every bug going...) I really want to boost my immune system.
Probiotics seem to be the way to go. I can't, however, stand Kaffir or yogurty drinks, so I'm after a supplement.
Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks.

Other options
Apple cider vinegar with the mother
Certain cheeses
Kombucha drinks

Incorporate lots of prebiotic food to your diet too encourage your own good bacteria.
Onions, garlic, asparagus, leek

Good health has to be an all round approach.
Get your b12, folate and vitamin D status checked.
Take additional magnesium. Reduce sugar and carbs.

Optibac Saccharomyces Boulardii worked absolute miracles for my immune system about 6 years ago. I used to get every virus going and could barely go a month without catching something, but I started taking it and went 18 months without catching anything apart for one extremely mild cold that only lasted 2-3 days - this was despite everyone at work having a shocker of a year with illness and regularly coughing all over me. However, I then caught Covid and it hasn’t worked for me since then. I’d definitely give it a go though - I have an autoimmune condition that Covid stirred up horribly and I’m pretty sure it would still be working fine if my body wasn’t so wrecked.

Biokult tablets. The boosted version

Although personally they gave me constipation

@Ohwtfnow did you have any side effects when taking the Optibac? Did you find it helped you feel better in general?

Piggles1979 · 12/02/2025 20:47

@Ohwtfnow @Cloud44
I've been taking Optibac since @Ohwtfnow recommended.
It's only been a couple of weeks but I'm definitely feeling a lot better in myself. I'm not feeling constantly tired and as if I'm fighting something off. I just feel more myself, if that makes sense.
Sleeping well, and even getting up early to exercise before work. I was too knackered to do so before.
It might be a coincidence or whatever, but I'll be sticking with them!
Thanks for the recommendation!

@Cloud44 yea, that's the one.
No side effects at all.
Haven't tried Actimel because I can't bear yogurty stuff 🤢

@Piggles1979 ah i shall take a look! Have you found it’s helped you feel better generally? I’ve been feeling a bit run down, tired, catching colds etc, trying to find something to give me a boost!

Piggles1979 · 12/02/2025 22:21

@Cloud44 I started taking the tablets for exactly those reasons. I am certainly feeling a lot better in myself.

I didn’t have any side effects from them at all. They made my immune system work so much better and they stopped the diarrhoea that I was getting daily. I wish they still worked for me now because they were brilliant.

Are they ok to take alongside vitamin d, zinc and c? I’m tempted to give them a try!
