Anyone had any side effects coming off Omeprazole .Dr gave me a months course of 20mg a day and the course finished about 4 days ago . Last night I was woken by pains on my right side that are still present today . They are intermittent and like a throbbing pain . Just wondered if it's connected .

That's for heartburn isn't it? I take it as needed not had the issue you mentioned

Mine told me to come off gradually, take one every other day for 2 weeks then stop. I got the odd episode of burning throat but nothing like you describe.

Possibly you just need a longer course? Maybe gastritis hasn’t totally settled?

I've been on it a while. Was advised to slowly reduce. If u go cold turkey you'll get rebound effects.

You can buy it off the shelf in chemist. If I were you I'd get some tomorrow and gradually reduce the dose. I was prescribed it for acid reflux when pregnant and take maybe 1 tablet a week over a year later, as it helps.

Thankyou all . I got it prescribed by the dr but no mention of tapering the dose so I did just stop . It feels like I have some gas but this right side pain is new to me .

I hate to say it, but it sounds like gallstones - go and see your GP.

What you're describing is exactly how my gallstone pain presented - right side pain, kind of like the feeling of gas, waking me up in the night. In the time between diagnosis and the op to remove my gallbladder, they put me on omeprazole to lower the risk of attacks. In your case, being on omeprazole was preventing them and now you're off it, it's not.
