Does anybody have epilepsy and drives?

Hi guys this is not about me I'm just wondering about epilepsy. Have someone close to me with it. Who only would take seizures when they get way to drunk/don't get a lot of sleep. Is there anybody here similar to that that still drives? Thanks

A person has to be free from seizures for 12 months before they are legal to drive. The cause of the seizure is irrelevant with regard to to driving.

Anybody know how I edit my post? Should have put more detail. So it's my daughter's dad my ex he has been free from seizures 13 months. But me and him often fight because he drives my daughter about and I'm terrified he's going to crash with my baby girl. She's near 5. though one thing I do know he rarely takes them. He would only take one If say he went out a night and got really drunk, then he would take one next day. We have an agreement through court he can't go out /drink 24-48 hours before getting our daughter. Sorry should have been more detailed in my post

As pp said if he's been seizure free for 13 months he's perfectly entitled to drive.

The fact he hasn't had one in all that time is a good sign. Unless he has another one you can't stop him taking her out in the car.

Has he told the DVLA about his seizures and been cleared to drive

Has he been tested for epilepsy or is the cause of his seizures unknown?

I wouldn't let him drive my child unless he had been medically cleared to drive.

Hi I'm epileptic. I've been seizure free for several years as I take my medication and I can drive and do. If you're epileptic you are not meant to drink alcohol and he shouldn't be self medicating to prevent seizures when binge drinking. He needs to stop drinking alcohol. Does your daughter know what to do if he has a seizure when she's there? His priority should be his health and your daughters safety. No one needs to drink alcohol. This must be very frustrating as it's out of your control I'm sorry your having this problem.

That's not entirely true if seizures are only when asleep.

YABVU. If DVLA have cleared him to drive, then you have no reason to object. He would've had to declare that he hasn't had an episode whilst driving for 12 mths and named His Consultant or GP on the form.

Hi all sorry for the late reply. Yeah he doesn’t really drink! Maybe 1 beer. But doesn’t go out or anything. And my daughter doesn’t know what to do if he was to have one as she’s only 4, what would be a good age to say to her? He has an older daughter that is always there she’s nearly 13 so she would ring me or her mum

He got bottled outside a bar when he was 21 so it’s been since then !

Yeah there was a time he went 6 years without having one! When would be a good time to tell my daughter about it? She is only 4 so don’t think she would understand now
