What happens when veruccas 'go'?

I have a verruca on my foot, and it has been there since just before Christmas 07.

I tried freezing it with Warner, nothing.

Tried those damn patch things which stuck to everything except the bloody verruca.

Verruca was V painful (periodically) and was swollen up around the circumference (IYSWIM)

It is no longer swollen, no longer causes pain and has gone blacker.

Does this mean it is going of its own accord? or am I about to transmogrify into verruca woman?

ahhh my dermatologist did the freezing thing a couple of weeks ago and mine is black, but I just want it GONE.

Question: Are they infectious still at this black state? I do karate and have avoided going for months and I MISS it!

ooh ds2 has one , a biggun at the bottom of hisbig toe. god im desperate to dig it out, it looks SO ripe for picking!! i just wish it was on me, not him so i could [suppresses urge to go and ambush him in his bed with a torch]

have been trying all sorts. its gone black so maybe we're on right track.
last time i froze it, it looked like it was gonna fall out... then it got all comfy again. bastard thing.

ds1's was v well behaved in comparison. i froze it once and it fell off.

NappiesGalore · 03/05/2008 21:41

duchess - did it hurt when your sister picked em out?

PeaGreene · 03/05/2008 21:43

this thread's hilarious. Why are veruccas so satisfying?

years and years ago, I had stuff put on mine by a chiropodist and eventually it swelled up and looked like a crumpet on my toe - all plump and full of wholes. Was truly intriguing.

Sidge · 03/05/2008 21:45

The black speckles are the wart's blood supply.

All the treatments are really just to prevent the wart/verruca growing too much bigger by freezing or killing it's blood supply. As warts are caused by a virus, until your immune system suppresses the virus the treatments are unlikely to get rid of the wart or verruca, especially if they are big and deep.

Small ones do sometimes fall off.

Oblomov · 03/05/2008 21:46

oh od, who was it who mentioned eating it.
PLEEEEASE.
This is getting grosser and grosser

NappiesGalore · 03/05/2008 21:49

so it wont go till hes immune to it?

Rolf · 03/05/2008 21:52

I was deemed untouchable today by a reflexologist as I have a verruca and athlete's foot . She said that for the verruca I should put some crushed garlic on it, cover it with a plaster and in a couple of days it will come off.

I'm too fat to pick at it!

NappiesGalore · 03/05/2008 21:53

i think a touch of crushed garlic and a couple of days is somewhat hopeful...

HeadFairy · 03/05/2008 22:00

this is making me laugh so much, I too am an inveterate verruca digger.... perhaps we should have an aa type confessional. I have had one massive one since before I met dh and we're coming up to our third wedding anniversary! I think it got bigger during pregnancy, my gp said it's because your immune system steps down a bit when you're pregnant. I'm digging away, I hope there's gold at the bottom of this particular hole cos it's huuuuuge. The whole of the ball of my foot. So far salactol has been the best.

I am finding it a bit disturbing as to how many "diggers" there are.
Do you all enjoy inflicting pain on yourselves?
Are you scab pickers aswell ?
Do we need to ask Towers to open up another topic ???????

lol at 'crumpet on my toe'

They seem to only target Brits for some reason. For me are synonymous with dingy 70s style swimming baths.

Blandmum · 03/05/2008 22:04

I squeeze zits as well, you can't beat a good blackhead.....

Oblomov · 03/05/2008 22:07

MB, blackheads don't count.
I thought everyone did that.

Blandmum · 03/05/2008 22:07

LOL

Oblomov · 03/05/2008 22:11

I mean show mw a 'TRUE' woman, who doesn't have a magnifying mirror for blackhead squeezing.
But no, come on, verucca picking, is taking this holey/spongey/crumpety thing a bit further, don't you think ?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/05/2008 22:11

nappiesg - sometimes they hurt but the ones that came out whole never did. Perhaps they were 'dead'?

And no Oblomov, neither my sister nor I ever ate them. Bleurgh!!!!!

PeaGreene · 03/05/2008 22:12

You'll never look at a crumpet in the same way again

Oblomov · 03/05/2008 22:13

Duchess, does it look like a tapeworm when it comes out whole ?
Yuk, I must go and be sick. And I can't even blame it on MS.

Oblomov · 03/05/2008 22:14

PeaGreene, no never.
I have got some ready for tomoorow.
I don't thinkI will be able to eat them.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/05/2008 22:17

Aren't tapeworms quite big/long/eurgh?

My veruccas were quite small - the biggest ones were about the size of match-heads. Is this unusual, does everyone else have big button sized veruccas? My sister will be gutted if she missed out on such a harvest...
