Would you still have an xray if symptoms went away?

Have a chest xray next week due to an ongoing cough.
The cough however (touch wood) appears to be clearing up. I feel like the sensible thing would be to still go. However just concerned about radiation from X-rays. I had a cough similar last and had an xray then aswell.

I would still go.

DontshootmyRaptors · 05/01/2025 21:28

If it goes away why do you still need the x ray. No I would not go.

Carriemac · 05/01/2025 21:42

Go . You'd get 3 x the radiation flying to New York

Definitely go, it may be clearing up, it may be a few days relief and then back to symptoms.

pizzaHeart · 05/01/2025 23:53

Yes.

OurDreamLife · 05/01/2025 23:53

I’d go incase it starts up again.

coralsky · 06/01/2025 09:07

I would because I can guarantee if I didn't go it would start again in a week!
I know a lot about hospitals and various scans and tbh the x ray is quick in and out and there's not a massive wait for them.
If it was a pet scan or similar I'd think again about wasting their time.

Or a couple of days of background radiation.

The radiographer and/or radiologist will probably check your symptoms again immediately before taking the X-ray and could decide not to if they think it's unnecessary for medical reasons. They'll also be able to reassure you about the negligible risk of a chest X-ray if they decide to go ahead.
