NHS App - anyone else unable to use?

FortWalton · 05/01/2025 10:13

I installed the NHS App when it first came out and it worked really well for about 18 months. Then it stopped working. A friend who worked for the NHS at the time said that they had had a cyber attack so none of their systems were working, but to wait for it to come back.

It didn't, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. I have never been able to get into it since because it cannot tie me up with my GP surgery. I have spent hours, days in fact, over the last couple of years on several attempts with the Tech Team to get it working for me and all have failed. It simply does not recognise me. Meanwhile, Patient Access, which I have been using, is becoming really clunky and I fear that my surgery will dump it altogether before too long.

I know one other person in a similar position, but there can't just be the two of us surely? Are you having the same issues?

Thanks

I don’t bother with it

Mouthfulofquiz · 05/01/2025 10:17

Same here - I’ve tried and tried. I can’t be ‘tied’ to my surgery either. I’ve deleted, reinstalled… anyway. I officially can’t be arsed with it.

GinandGingerBeer · 05/01/2025 10:17

I needed a code from my GP to set it me up for online services initially. Then I could access the app. Maybe you need to do that if you haven't tried already?

MagneticSquirrel · 05/01/2025 10:17

Can you log into the website itself ok? Most of the app functionality is available on the web.

FortWalton · 05/01/2025 10:31

I'm not alone then @Mouthfulofquiz

No, I can't get in via the website either and yes, I have had all the codes etc I need from the surgery, not just the ones that worked initially, but two other sets as well. I have also confirmed that the information they hold about me is correct in all points.

The whole of Scotland, I believe Hmm

I had a problem with mine and the GP had to reset my linkage key, which resolved the issue.

I contacted the help section through the NHS app and that was the solution they came up with, which worked.

That's the first line solution, that I was assured would work. It didn't.

Have you tried the airmid app. All the same info and more.

I've just tried - hadn't heard of it before. Turns out my GP practice does not support it Airmid.

How frustrating. Sorry I’ve got no other suggestions!

teacoffeeorpassthegin · 05/01/2025 12:14

Mine works
I only use it for repeat prescriptions though

WingBingo · 05/01/2025 12:16

The issue is most likely with your GP surgery.

Rocknrollstar · 05/01/2025 12:48

I actually had to have an appointment with the IT coordinator at our practice. I can’t remember what the problem was but even they had trouble but did manage eventually to link me to the app.

I was asked to check that the information they hold for me (name, address, DOB, email address, telephone number) are correct and after going through it with one of the reception staff, we were able to confirm that they are.

That makes sense as they are able to e mail and phone me and I have to quote my DOB at the start of every interaction with them.

As far as we are aware, there is no issue with the surgery.

I couldn't get it to load so I pressed the "?" Help at the top right of the first screen and I got onto it that way. The app never works for me anymore but I always get on via the question mark if you want to try it.

I can use one part of it if I log in using my fingerprint and something totally different if I log in with the password. It's managed to link itself to two different emails addresses of mine and I've no idea how to delete the one I don't want it to use.

I can use it for repeat scripts, but that's more or less all. No GP records, no appointments show up, and I can't request appointments nor send the GP any messages. All those options seem to be there but just don't do anything.

My GP does support/use Airmid, but again, I've had no luck getting that to work at all.

So, despite all the technology in the world in the palm of my hand, I still have to call the surgery to make an appointment.
