Hi all. I have really bad health anxiety so aware this is nothing and I am going to the dentist next month for a routine checkup.

I have had a red patch under my tooth which is crooked always has been. I've had this for years but I watched something and it mentioned dental abscess and now I'm panicking I have one. Does it look normal?

If it was an abscess you would be in agony, feel generally unwell etc.

You'd know if you had an abscess. It's agony, painkillers don't touch it. You might have a large swelling on your gum (not always) and a horrible taste. Often you would feel generally ill too.
Just let the dentist check it out, they'll see if there's any infection.

You’re aware this is your health anxiety. You must know posting for reassurance just feeds that. Focus on the things that help your health anxiety.

I had an abscess over Christmas but the pain was manageable due to already having had root canal previously. The swelling was very obvious though.

Red inflamed gums is probably gingivitis. Gum disease.

You'd know if it was infected.
