Constant illness since September - Advice needed please

Hi All, I have been sick since September and I can’t seem to shake it and it’s really getting me down. 😥

I caught what I believe was flu on a flight back from France in September, I had a Covid test and it was negative. I had fever, chills ache all the classic flu stuff. And then I got a cough that has not stopped since then.

About once month just as I start to think I’m improving I get the fever again usually nearly 40c. And then it all starts again but with some additional symptoms.

I had it once where I got a headache and retinal migraines with the flu symptoms.

last time it was with a sinus infection, blocked ears and nose running, lymph nodes inflamed.

And then I had the fever again 3 nights ago and now I have a sore throat cough, I have lost my voice, I have a cold sore and ulcers in my mouth.

my DS is turning one in 2 weeks and is waking up once or twice in the night.

I have seen the doctor and they gave me 10 days of antibiotics back in October, which did nothing.

In November I had a chest X-ray which was all clear and blood test which they said were borderline (no further action).

There has to be something else wrong and going on right? I know I need to go back to the doctors for more help but I don’t know what to ask them for! I need to try and fight and push for help but I have no idea what’s going on.

I’m 38 and have never been ill like this in my life. If you ask my DS where mummy is he makes a pretend .”cough, cough” as that’s all I have been doing for 4 months of his life!

I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way OP.

I’ve searched for “cough” threads because DD 12 has also been ill in a very similar-sounding way to yourself for months now.
I’m at a loss to know what to do. GP is being utterly shit and basically saying there’s nothing they can do. She’s exhausted and crying all the time she feels so rubbish.

All I can find out from extensive googling is that it’s viral. I thoughts she’d rally after a week off school for Christmas but if anything, she’s worse than ever and now her little brother has it too. I never for a second thought she’d still be this unwell after so much rest.

If anyone has any tips for improving matters (ideally before schools go back!) please post it!!

How's your diet? Are you taking any vitamins and or supplements? Are you deficient in anything?

IoWfairy · 01/01/2025 21:47

Oh poor you. It's miserable but I see you have a little one. The bad news is that until they're about 5 they get ill about every 6 weeks - and that's an average so sometimes it's almost constant - and you'll get most of that too.
If you think you're getting more illnesses than your kid, perhaps discuss with your GP

What blood tests were borderline? It's worth looking into. I had 'borderline' vitamin D and felt dreadful for example!

Hiya, did you find out anything to help? This sounds very similar to me and I'm so down about being ill and worrying it's something worse but don't know what to ask the doctors to check..

Thank you, hope you feel better now x

Hi All thank you for the messages! It’s so hard when it feels so relentless, I’m sorry to hear so many of you and your loved ones are feeling the same!

so I went to see the Doctor today and they said exactly what I expected, it sounds like a classic viral infection.

but I had a younger doctor and he seemed really interested in helping me boost my immunity and get better.

They said they don’t think it’s just one long sickness since September but I keep picking up different viruses as my immunity is lower.

They looked at my blood test and said it all looks good but my red blood cells are a little small. and I have a classic marker of me body fighting an infection.

He said take Iron tables, and extra vitamin D like 3000iu+ per day as everyone is deficient in vitamin d.

He told me to rest and continue with my paracetamol and ibuprofen. And they told me to try and isolate myself for 7 days and not go around other people to give myself a chance to get better and build up my immune system and so I don’t catch anything else.

im just going to stay home for the next week, luckily I work from home.

fingers crossed I feel better before the 12th for my DS 1st Birthday party 🙏🏻
