Random very painful lumps on vagina

Sadasad · 31/12/2024 14:16

Out of nowhere I have had incredibly painful small lumps on my vulva around the opening, one between my vagina and anus, and one on the opening of my anus. Around my bumhole is also very itchy and sore Blush Nothing has changed to cause this, does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Thank you everyone for the support and advice, sorry I haven’t been overly responsive, the pain was not too bad last night while in bed but definitely still there, but in the morning when I went for a wee it started everything back up again. Now I have been for a poo it has made my arse feel like a ring of fire. I haven’t eaten anything even remotely spicy recently, so I am pretty concerned now. I have almost muscle cramp type feelings coming from my bum cheeks into my thighs, only mild for now but uncomfortable. As it’s New Year’s Day, none of the pharmacy’s are open in my area, I was going to get some lidocaine cream as I need some relief. I have cried again this morning, as it is just so relentless.

I would say 100% herpes, but best get checked. Unfortunately theses not much you can do. First flare up is always the worst x

BoldAmberDuck · 01/01/2025 11:45

Take a large jug of warm water in to toilet and when you wee, pour it slowly over your bits at the same time as weeing, it will take some of the sting away

PandaChopChop · 01/01/2025 11:45

Herpes, definitely.

Showers only, get yourself to a GUM clinic as soon as you can. You'll need anti virals.

Sadasad · 01/01/2025 12:10

Shit! I’ve been having at least daily warm baths since this has started as it’s the only thing that really soothes it. Why shouldn’t I have baths??

Don’t panic. Baths are fine. Take some pain killers and do whatever you are finding comfort from, baths included. You’ll not have another outbreak as bad as this.
When you fall pregnant, your midwife will prescribe you some anti virals for the last month of your pregnancy to ensure you don’t have any lesions during the labour. If you do happen to have an outbreak while in labour, you can have a caesarean.
If you have the financial means, once you have been tested and diagnosed, you can buy yourself a monthly prescription of anti virals to suppress outbreaks ever occurring.

As to how you have developed them, as pp have mentioned, they can lay dormant for many years. You could have contracted the virus before netting your partner or he could have been carrying it and unknowingly given it to you.

There are two strains, HSV1 and HSV2. Both of these strains can be found on genitals or face but HSV2 is more commonly found on the genitals and HSV1 on the face. This means that people who have cold sores can pass the virus onto the genitals of their partner through oral sex. It could have happened this way. Cold sores can be found inside the nose as well as on the lip.

Millions of people walk around with these on their face every single day without any care in the world. Please don’t let it get you down that you have the exact same virus but just in a more private place.

Herpes is horribly painful on the first outbreak. You effectively have lots of ulcers so they will burn. I remember sitting in the bath crying for a few days!

Pain relief and lots of rest. Worth a trip to your local GUM clinic to get a formal diagnosis. They may give you a prescription for Aciclovir or you can get an online prescription from Superdrug.

Many people never have an outbreak again so this is likely to be the worst of it. In future, you’ll be able to have sex with DH, but not if you’re having an active outbreak. If you are pregnant in future, you’ll need to let your midwife know.

Sadasad · 01/01/2025 15:14

Yes I’ve done lots of crying in the bath the past couple of days. Was yours unbearably painful? Just trying to gauge whether this level of pain is normal for this. Even laying in bed it is burning mildly.

Does anyone know if I can use Bepanthem?

Yep, worst pain I’ve experienced. Was miserable for a few days. But it will pass. Try to get some Aciclovir.

AI says not to.

It does sound like herpes. Please don't feel bad it is afterall just a skin condition. The first outbreak is the worst. I remember the pain well. I had one very minor outbreak about 6 months after the first one, then nothing at all since, and that over 10 years ago.

No, Bepanthen is too thick.

Plain salt water (chuck a handful of salt in a shallow bath) and a liberal layer of Vaseline, especially before you go for a wee. It stops the sores from sticking together and creates a barrier that will stop your wee from burning as much.

I’m at work today. Most of my job involves walking around muddy fields so it has been an absolute nightmare Sad It hurts a little less, maybe it is just because I’ve had to force myself into moving so I’ve just got on with it, but it is still so painful to walk, sit, just to exist. I actually cried this morning at the thought of having to face another day with this. I’m going to the pharmacy after work today to try and pick up some Lidocaine and perhaps some freezy patches. Peeing and pooping still unbearable but I’ve had to just force myself through. When I get home I’m going to have another bath as I didn’t have time to have one this morning, then I’m getting into bed. I hate this, it is making me lazy but I am just so mentally and physically exhausted all I want to do is collapse into bed and cry. However I am less tearful today than other days.

So you're not going to the doctor's?
I know it's embarrassing but it's important to verify if it's herpes.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 02/01/2025 12:25

You haven't mentioned what the clinic/urgent care centre said so I'm guessing you haven't been? Please do get seen as soon as possible, people on the internet who cannot see your issue cannot diagnose you, you really are potentially suffering unnecessarily and you could be perpetuating whatever the problem is. Just bit the bullet and get it seen.

My first attack back in the 90s was so bad I ended up in hospital for a few days. Baths helped but the nurses recommended a good handful of salt in the water which definitely helped with pain and healing.

I've only had a few attacks since then but I can feel it coming days in advance so I simply refrained from sexual contact until the blisters had come and gone.

Sadasad · 02/01/2025 12:35

I really don’t want to go to the doctors. It looks horrendous down there right now and I just can’t face it. I’d much rather treat it by myself as much as possible. I know it’s not the right thing to do but I very rarely go to the doctors unless it is an emergency

Why did you go to hospital? Just curious as there has been a couple of times it’s crossed my mind due to the pain, was it due to that or another symptom? I’m not sure I could handle salt in the bath water, surely it will sting like hell??
Sorry, I’m clueless!

I would go to a GP or sexual health clinic today OP. Don't be a martyr and just go.

JC03745 · 02/01/2025 12:56

Look up your nearest sexual health clinic here OP! The records DO NOT go to your GP, if that is what is concerning you? You could ask to see a female Dr/Sexual health nurse if available too. PLEASE get it checked, because you might be treating yourself for the wrong thing!

TENSsion · 02/01/2025 13:07

They’ll also prescribe you antivirals which will help clear it up faster. Without treatment, you might be like this for more than a week.

pinkteddy · 02/01/2025 13:15

Honestly I used to work in sexual health and they have seen it all and much worse before. Please don’t be embarrassed OP.

SameSameNo · 02/01/2025 13:18

If you take a photo on your mobile of the sores with flash option on and really look closely at the pic, does it look like herpes pics online?
If its herpes its a life long condition and you need to know and tell current and future partners. I believe genital herpes is asked about as part of pregnancy care and it's better to know if this is a herpes infection or not.

Been with my boyfriend for 2 years and he is with me every single day, absolutely zero chance of him cheating so not an sti.

You can have an STI for years with no symptoms and it can come out years later, I would speak to GP and possible go to get tested.

Essexmumma20 · 02/01/2025 13:23

Hello, go and see GP or sexual health clinic. Another condition that can cause painful boils there is Hidradenitis suppurativa.
hope you get some answers soon
