Magnesium and sleep

I've had various ads show up in my social media for magnesium spray or cream products to help with sleep. Has anyone tried one of these and it's made a difference?

I sometimes (several times a week) have trouble getting to sleep having disturbed nights. But probably because of a cough and a child! I had Covid a few months ago and feel like I haven't totally recovered. GP wasn't interested when I asked them. I feel like nights are disturbed and I never get enough sleep. Have tried the obvious like going to bed at a sensible time, cutting out caffeine etc.

I looked at evidence but there didn't seem to be much in the way of good quality trials.

I take magnesium glycinate tablets, which is supposed to be good for sleep. I do believe it helps. It's not like taking sleeping pills though. The effects are subtle. I still sometimes have bad nights but generally my sleep is better.

I take magnesium glycinate tablets and they've really helped with my fidgety legs. I am 53 and sleep badly at times which I've put down to work stress (teacher) and my age mostly.

I take tablets too. I think I sleep more deeply with them. No harm in trying them, magnesium is generally helpful. I take these

I take magnesium glycinate tablets before bed too and agree with pp, they aren't like sleeping tablets and I still have the occasional poor night, however my sleep is far less disturbed and my restless legs don't keep me awake. I take hrt too so I think it is a combination of both that helps my sleep.

I've got the spray and the cream. Can't see much difference and the spray is quite sticky. I'm intending to get the glycinate though.
