Ear infection - is this normal?

Any wise mumsnetters able to offer me some ear infection advice

A few days before Christmas my ear started to hurt at the same time as I came down with the nasty virus that's doing the rounds. Christmas was mainly spent in bed with a fever and then that subsided and I was left with ear ache. I became quite dizzy and felt really sick so 111 advised a visit to urgent care where I had an ear infection diagnosed and was put on anti biotic drops . That was 2 days ago. I'm 6 doses into the antibiotic drops and after initially feeling brighter the nausea is now back with vengeance and my neck and ear are back aching,

I don't have a high fever but my temp is higher than it usually is for me and I'm just generally feeling rubbish. I've missed all of my Christmas plans at this point.

I just wondered when the nausea should go away? Or any advice to help ease it?

How many days of ear drops are left?
Are you still taking painkillers and fluids?

You need to be seen again. You probably need oral ABx. Your hearing is precious so call your gp or 111 now.

I have found antibiotic drops in the ear have never worked for ear infections.

I'd get more medical attention and ask for oral antibiotics.

Hope you get better very soon.

Thank you so much. I have a GP appointment tomorrow ( booked before urgent care visit as they couldn't see me earlier) but I will re call 111 now and see if I can get seen any sooner. Thank you all

I have an out of hours appointment in an hour! Thanks so much for everyone's advice! My neck is getting more sore but I think it's swollen glands so I'm glad I am getting checked again x

Good luck for your appointment. Maybe the drops were for an outer ear infection but sounds like you have a middle ear infection with the dizziness. Hope you feel better soon. Please post an update when you can

Glad you got sorted. Hope you got the meds and that you feel better soon

I'm prone to ear infections and don't usually see any improvement until I've taken the drops for three full days. After that it slowly improves.
