Anyone know about eyes?

Just been to the optician for a check up as I thought it had probably been a while.
Anyway short history, I went blind in one eye for about 2 hours when I had a bout of very high blood pressure during my second pregnancy dd2 is now 2.3 yo. This has never recurred and is not soemthing I have even thought about much.
I realised when the optician was doing test that i can not see close up out of my left eye at all when my right eye is cobvered. I said thats not good is it and she said no. Anyway she said that there wasn't anything that i needed glasses for but she would write to my doctors to ssee if i needed reffering (I didn't ask where to). They also carried out the field of vision test on my left eye 3 times.
I have come away and am now very worried, what could be wrong with my eyes that can't be fixed by glasses? Could it be something more sinister and why are they writing to my doc and who would I be reffered to.
I know it is unlikely that anyone actually knows these things but I am now really worried.

sounds like you may have a defect in the middle of your visual field on the left. Possibly due to a bleed in the retina when you had the high bp. Did anyone look in your eyes when you went blind?

You will probably be referred to an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) to see if anything can be done about it.

Did look at my eyes at the time as they wouldn't let me out of hospital until they had, I am sure I remember them saying there had been no bleed, she also looked into my eyes with the very bright light today.

not the same thing for me, but I went to the optomotrist last week and was stunned to discover that my eye vision issues are down to me suffering from iritis and not the medication that I have been on since my car accident last october!!!

soooo.....I feel for you.....I was utterly shocked and also scared as I too have had to be referred by my doctor (mine can be a symptom of something else going on).

I am reckoning that with you, it is probably somehting like tissy says.....I know that the eye man for me also pointed out an area in my eye that shows damage from a high blood pressure episode (probably connected to the accident again!).....for me it is nothing to worry about, but it the eye man said it is where the blood vessel kinks in some way in your eye......not sure how relevent that is to your eyes as obviously it has had an effect, but it may help you understand what they wuld be looking at etc.

no idea on treatment.....laser surgery maybe????

good luck......you have my sympathy.

Psychomum5 · 02/05/2008 13:27

oh, and my damage is permenant too.....altho mine is fixable by glasses re my eyes......not sure on what the other illness is tho that it may be connected too.....am hoping mine is a 'one off' (well.....more maybe, not sure as yet) episode!!!

Doesn't actually affect my everyday vision, I had never even noticed before today tbh, perhaps I should read a little more. I did have a lazy eye as a child and apparently my eyes don't work together anyway.
I just went to specsavers and they said they really needed my history, shall stick to same one every time now.
I know when she put all the different lenses up none of them actually made any difference at all.
Sound like you have been through the mill lately Psycomum.

I am currently stuck in a 'domino' effect I fear....

hey ho.....life is certainly not boring

ditavonteesed · 02/05/2008 13:42

It certainly is not that.

I have just been sat closing each eye to see what I can read on telly and stuff and it makes me feel like I am going to get a really bad headache if I read with only my left eye, it is like I can see but I have to concentrate really hard.
