When I had mine fitted last year, they said they can last 3, 5 or 10 years. I would go and mention it, and they should know which one you have and whether or not it needs changing

If it's a hormone relesing kind, the hormone will have run out after 5 years. Am I confusing IUD with IUS?

i've had 2 iud's the first was a non hormone one. i seem to remember being told when i had it fitted that there was either a 2 year one or a 5 year one, but it may depend on the brand you have, i'd get it changed just in case.

Depends on which coil - most copper coils are 5 but the occasional one is 8 years, the ones with hormones in are 5- but most last beyond their dates to some extent! Don't forget to use condoms/ not bonk for a week before having the coil changed in case the little wrigglers get in and find an egg in between!

five to ten years. when i had mine fitted the doctor told me she'd taken one out of a pensioner who had forgotten all about it.

nothing like a good bonk !!! they'll have a record in your notes when it was fitted but personally I wouldn't take the chance and would find out asap.

i had the copper 7 (years ago )It had a two year life span as it wouldnt be reliable as birth control after that.
