Pain lower right hand side?? Copper coil?

I woke up yesterday morning with a stitch style pain on my right hand side (thought it could be trapped gas) but it's still here today and hurts alot if I cough or move, I had a copper coil fitted on Monday but thinking if it was that it wouldn't be that far to the right, I don't have a fever or anything it's just a horrible pain! Has anyone had trapped gas this painful and last this long ? It's also tender to touch - my husband keeps saying I should just go to an and e but I'm worried about wasting there time if it's just gas! x

I'm actually worried it could be I called 111 and waiting for a call back, has anyone else had an appendicitis? If so what were your symptoms ?

It could be an ectopic pregnancy, have you taken a pregnancy test?

Pashazade · 26/12/2024 17:21

If you aren't there already go to A&E now, pain in lower right when you cough or move and tender to the touch could all be appendicitis. It can kill you. My symptoms were very similar and it was gangrenous. Came on literally in the space of an hour and I had been feeling fine all day.

Also walking was uncomfortable, I couldn't eat, standing up hurt.

Hope you have been given something for the pain. Hope CT scan went well/ goes ok and you find out what's causing the pain

Just a little update if anyone else gets in the same situation, I have PID from having the coil inserted it's really rare so I didn't think it would be that but if you get an IUD fitted and you get any pain go and get checked! Now on an antibiotic drip, hoping it will get to work fast :)

They almost brushed off that it could
Result in an infection and said 'i have to say this but there's not really any chance of it happening' guess I just got unlucky!

Thanks for the update. Hope you are home now and resting.

hol92 · 27/12/2024 12:19

Glad it wasn't your appendix and you're on the mend.

DoctorMartin · 28/12/2024 18:23

Poor you! How horrible and unlucky. Thank you for updating. Did you have to have the coil removed or is it ok to stay in?

angelopal · 28/12/2024 18:26

Hope you feel better soon. I had an ovarian abscess and the antibiotics made me feel really rough.

hol92 · 29/12/2024 21:52

@DoctorMartin yes I had it removed straight away, that wasn't fun 🙈

Thank you @angelopal I had no idea it would be that painful I couldn't walk standing straight it's definitely alot better than it was you are right about feeling rough on the antibiotics!

Also I'm taking metronidazole apparently you can't even have chocolate while taking it, has anyone been on this one ?

OP posts:
DoctorMartin · 29/12/2024 22:26

I hadn't heard that about chocolate but you definitely can't drink - it's basically Antabuse and you'll be horribly sick.

I hope you feel better soon.
