Hi, I had a colposcopy and hysteroscopy earlier this month done by a consultant obstetrician gynaecologicist. I was referred due to midcycle spotting, ovulation/intimittent luteal phase pelvic pain on one side, and a red patch at the bottom of my cervix. My previous smears all came back clear, my most recent was 6 months before the referral, so they are investigating the cause.
The consultant who performed the tests said my uterus had no polyps and was normal, and that my cervix looked normal apart from the red patch. She biopsied the red patch and my uterus.
I received a letter yesterday saying that I needed to go for another colposcopy in January, I haven't even received any results of my biopsies. The letter did not explain why.
I rang up to find out why i needed to have another colposcopy when I had already had such thorough testing. They said the consultant referred me to them to get rechecked as she was crossing her t's. She said they take a closer look at the outside, and the consultant I saw does the inside. I said the consultant has performed the coloscopy as well though, and taken a cervical biopsy as well. The lady just kept saying they are the colposcopy specialists and fhe consult referred me to them, and they would take an biopsies if they needed too.
I then rang the consultant's secretary to see if she had any more information. She was lovely, and read a letter out to me that she said I would receive after Christmas. It said that my uterus biopsy was benign and showed now signs of cancer, but didn't mention my cervical biopsy, and just the consultant uas requested the colposcopy team have a look. I said why was the sample not viable? And she said "yeah that's it."
Has anybody experienced this? I feel the after Christmas letter should have been sent woth the appointment, nothing was explained on the appointment letter, and I'm just left wondering what is going on. Is this the norm?
I had a Ultra sound scan yesterday as well, the sonographer abruptly said she couldn't tell me if everything was normal, the doctor gives results, not her, and that I'll receive my results within 2 weeks. I understand that they aren't medically trained to give results, but wish she would have said it looked okay, but it needs looked over. I have heard of some sonographers giving you an idea if it looks normal on first view.
