Are swollen lymph nodes a concern ?

I noticed a bump on my jawbone a few days ago and panicked as I thought I was getting an abscess but it hasn't gotten any bigger then last night the lymph node behind my ear got painful and bigger , I didn't realise you also have lymph nodes along your jaw. I don't feel sick. I've no signs or symptoms of sickness . How concerned should I be ? I haven't a hope of seeing my Gp until after Christmas maybe even new year . I would actually feel relieved if I was sick as in sore throat or something to explain them being swollen .

Yes and no. They are your bodys defence mechanism. If its still there after 14 days, Id get a doctors appointment.

I agree with@DigitalSweatshopWorker it being painful is an ok sign, it's doing it's job.

It usually just means you're fighting something off e.g. a virus or some kind of infection.
