IBS-C - anyone tried this ?

I have IBS C (life long) - colonoscopy recently = long loopy bowel, some diverticula.

Over the years I’ve tried every thing on the market - laxatives don’t help me - unless it’s Laxido - but I’m not keen to take that regularly, although if I have to I absolutely will.

I thought I’d try Biomel - so I’m 2 weeks in and nothing seems to have changed, (using the powder) - their ads state can take up to 6 weeks to notice change. I also take flaxseed (ground) and plenty of fluid .
Anyone had any success with this? I’m loathe to buy another packet of the powder if all I’m doing is buying Fckn expensive milkshakes ☹️.

Haven't tried it but I have the same issue and need something that works.

Birdwordie · 24/12/2024 00:12

Have you tried magnesium? Honestly that, lots of water and running weirdly enough is the only thing that keeps things moving not like I move a great deal, so any form of exercise that is aiding motility. But I completely feel your pain, had the same problem for 6 years

Birdwordie · 24/12/2024 00:15

I also forgot to add, daily abdominal massages to help move things along, sometimes we can get ileocecal valve dysfunction which can cause constipation if its always closed, if its open it causes diarrhea. There's lot of helpful videos on YouTube that you can try, sometimes when you're doing it you'll hear gurgling all the gas moving along but should aid with regular bowel movements

Haven't tried but I'd guess it's a gimmick. Most things bloody are. Also suffer with ibs-C and have tried everything diet, exercise, masses of water, magnesium supplements. I HAVE to take Laxido every day even though I hate it because if I don't I suffer even more.

@Birdwordie thanks, I run a few times a week and drink massive amounts of water . I’d been trying magnesium too - but just the tablet form out of Boots - do you recommend any other ?
@Nogodsnomasters do you just take one laxido per day? On the run up to colonoscopy (which I had to prep for twice in two weeks due to poor prep the first time 😒) I had to take laxido - was taking 4 per day to make things happen.

Sure, you can get Magnesium Citrate take one in the evening, if you can't get citrate get glycinate I hope that helps you can get definitely from Holland and barrett or other health stores x

Nogodsnomasters · 24/12/2024 13:07

I wish I was taking one per day. I'm taking between 3-5 per day depending on how bad I am.

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 24/12/2024 15:15

I might try the magnesium and maybe just keep going with the Biomel and see what happens . Thanks for your help 😍

I have found intermittent fasting has worked wonders for my c-ibs. I read its to do with giving the bowel time to rest, which makes sense. I roughly follow 16:8.

I also watch what I eat and avoid triggers as I found diet and stress really affect mine. As well as volume of food!

Boffle · 24/12/2024 15:43

I also have a long loopy bowel and I take various drugs that cause constipation. I have tried everything, all the usual recommendations. I looked at Biomel but concluded it was snake oil so I'd be interested to hear if you eventually get success. Senna doen't help, dulcoease does a bit, laxido if desperate. I take magnesium citrate. Old school Andrews liver salts work but they don't make them any more.

I manage most of the time with a big bowl of all bran, flax, full glass of prune juice (prunes alone don't help). A lot of very hot coffee helps. Lots of fruit, veg and water. If I deviate for a day it all goes to pot and takes ages to get back to normal. Main problem with this is the bran and juice give me awful wind so I have to skip it if I need to be socialble.

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 04/01/2025 12:24

@Boffle just an update - so I started taking this on 12th December, I’d say, with the utmost trepidation- that it seems to be working now. Noticed the last 3 days I’ve managed a bowel movement that seems almost normal (for me). I bought a second lot of the stuff, both bags I’ve bought have been the Belgian choc, I’ve put the powder into a smoothie with Greek yoghurt, blueberries a bit of apple juice and a spoonful of ground flax seed (which has never done anything for me in the past).
It tastes good because it’s choc, I’m going to try the unflavored next so that I’m not taking sweetener every day. Crossing fingers that it continues.

I know it's been a while @Ifyouhavetoask99 but is the Biomel working?

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 19/10/2025 00:24

@Phoenixfly sorry - I’ve only just seen this. The Biomel worked for about 2 months then just didn’t help anymore - no idea why. I’ve been taking Wild Dose tablets (for blocked bellies) since February and they still seem to help. Take two or three every night.

That's ok @Ifyouhavetoask99, funnily enough I started the wild dose a couple of days ago, so fingers crossed. Glad to hear they're working for you

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 19/10/2025 22:06

@Phoenixfly I hope they work for you too - please let me know how you get on with them.

@Ifyouhavetoask99 it's been a long time sorry! Update on wild dose, didn't work for me. However 2 kiwi fruit a day, skin on in my yoghurt works really well!!
