I suspect you may have answered your own question there, MM. YOur bf milk is protecting him from catching the bug.

You need to make sure that your nephew and niece are well hydrated - give them plenty of fluids. If you need a recipe for a rehydration drink, there is one on the thread I had for dd2 last week - I'll find it if you need it.

I answered your question about dd1 on the zappata thread, if you are still curious.

Dp hoping to rebuild the laptop over the weekend so should be back up and MSNing by early next week. Is Em ok? Text me if there is anything I can do.

yes the rhydration reciepe would be good. will look on other thread now.

Sure sounds like a gastro bug, MM. Children don't always get it at the same time. My two normally catch bugs within a couple of days of each other. These bugs are very contagious, so be very strict with hand washing.

Offer your neice & nephew bland food. No dairy products.

Hope your DS (and you!) escape the bug, and that your neice & nephew are feeling better soon.

I got this dreaded bug ... was up all night and am feeling extremely weak with no energy today. I thought I was feeling better this pm and had a banana - but feel grotty again now ... all this and dealing with a 5 week old (and BF-ing) . Luckily MIL took DD1 for the day cos I don't think I would have coped.

Pinkchampagne · 01/05/2008 18:48

Poor you, MP. Can't believe these bloody stomach viruses are still doing the rounds!

MaeWest · 01/05/2008 18:59

DS is just recovering from this (21 months). Couldn't keep anything down, even water, so have been bf on demand. He seems a little better today and I have offered food but I think he has eaten literally a few mouthfuls of toast and a little bit of banana...

He had a few 'loose' nappies but nothing that could be really described as diarroeah the squits (sorry can't spell tonight).

It is rough, hope your niece and nephew feel better soon medhismummy

mehdismummy · 01/05/2008 19:08

mae- have you found it better because he is bf? at least they are getting something. my ds just seems to avoided it but i have been poorly wonder if because i am still bf my immunity is being passed on iyswim, bless ds though he sounds like he has smoked 20 benson!
hiya pink, its my nieces you know( well the eldest anyway) they both refused food butonly the youngest took milk, bit worried that she is not taking anything though.

Don't worry about her not eating. She will eat when she is ready, but it is important that she is getting plenty of fluids.
Dairy products can irritate stomach upsets, so the milk may not be the best idea atm.

MaeWest · 01/05/2008 19:24

medhismummy - I found the fact that he was keeping down bm better than water quite reassuring, as the main issue with gastro bugs is dehydration. He never stopped having wet nappies. It also helped settle him back to sleep and comforted him.

He started being sick on Tues morning, then was sick through the night. Last sick yesterday morning and slept most of yesterday. Today was noticeably better, walking, talking etc. Also starting to whinge again, so obviously much better!

He has lost a bit of weight tho (but can afford to as he is a chunky one).

mehdismummy · 01/05/2008 19:43

bless, well i hope i havent counted my chickens, i hope he does not get it now

MM - If your niece is still being sick, you should stop giving her milk.

I know that it's all she wants (mine are like that) and I know it will make her scream, but it is really common for them to become lactose intolerant when they have a tummy bug. She needs a couple of days with no milk (but plenty of other fluids) and then she can go back to it.

Hope they're all better soon.

xx
