Kidney Infection

I went to my local urgent care centre on Tuesday after being unwell for a few days and was diagnosed with a kidney infection and given antibiotics and anti sickness tablets. I’ve been taking them for 2 days now and I just can’t get on top of the pain in my side/back. I’m taking regular paracetamol and ibuprofen but it’s not touching it and I’m so uncomfortable. I thought I’d start to see some improvement by now but I’ve still got a fever, shivers, pain and although the anti sickness tablets have stopped the actual vomiting I’ve still got horrific nausea.

I’ve never had a kidney infection before and I’m feeling very sorry for myself! I’m not sure whether it would be rather dramatic/OTT to ring my GP in the morning or whether I just need to persevere and give the meds more time to work 😣

I think it's fair enough to call the gp in the morning if there's still no improvement. Did they send off your urine to check the antibiotics are the right ones for you/the infection? I've had kidney infections, they can turn really serious. I needed a drip of antibiotics for one and separately developed sepsis after kidney surgery (not sure if that was from an infection in the kidney, or the surgery itself). If you do feel urgently concerned for your health, then do seek help sooner than the morning.

Some antibiotics don't do the trick for some infections. Go back and get your urine tested again. If the antibiotics work, you should start to feel better by the 3rd dose. It's awful - I've been there. Wishing you well soon.
