Ongoing nausea and GI issues after antibiotics

My digestive system is a total mess. I was given cefalexin in error by urgent care for a suspected kidney infection but later my samples came back clear so gp told me to stop after 5 days. I went in with fever and abdo pain but because I had recently had a uti and had some traces of blood in my urine they thought maybe kidneys. It wasn't.

I stopped the antibiotics over a week ago and my stomach is in bits still. Repeatedly waking up in the night with nausea, gagging, body trying to vomit but nothing coming up, endless burping, horrible taste in mouth. Loads of trapped wind, seems like my bowels are moving slower than normal as even though I have loose stools (usually mushy and mucusy, occasionally diarrhea), they are annoyingly irregular and I feel like I need to go a lot but can't get it out. It's even difficult to fart. GP prescribed buscopan but I read this slows things down even more so I've not taken it. I have cyclizine for the nausea but it makes me fall asleep and struggle to wee so not ideal. I've been totally wiped out by this and it's ruining me. I can't get in at the gp today to ask for anything else. I've had my stomach looked at and listened to by a few Dr's and they think it seems like nothing serious. Stool samples been checked for infection, c diff, calprotectin. All negative but have repeated c diff and other bacteria samples today as still not resolved. I have some kefir arriving soon but I'm really struggling to eat enough. I've lost loads of weight and need to get well for Xmas. What else can I do?! Do I need more tests? Scans? I was worried about some sort of blockage but GP says it's not that.

I am not qualified to give any sort of medical advice, but I would stockpile probiotic tablets or powder and consume them as often as possible alongside the kefir. I take probiotics daily anyway but if I don’t double my dose when on antibiotics I have similar issues to you and it can take a few weeks for my stomach to settle again.

I really hope you start feeling better soon.

Antibiotics can wipe out a lot of the bacteria that help process food in your bowel.

You need to build them up again.

Very bland simple diet. Lots of probiotics.

Whenever I have antibiotics now I also take actimel to help counterbalance the stomach issues they cause.

Take something like this and have a very bland diet. Chicken soup, rice, toast etc, and plain water or tea to drink. Little but often is key.

I take probiotics anyway but didn't take them during the course of antibiotics as I felt so sick. I've started them again now and bought some more. Hoping they help.
