Does this look/sound like a whitlow?

I woke up yesterday morning with a painful spot on my finger tip, on the inside edge of my right middle finger. There wasn’t much to see at this stage but it was surprisingly painful already.

This developed over the course of yesterday and by bedtime there wasn’t much a more obvious bump/lump/spot thing.

This morning it’s very painful and is now a firm white/yellow bump under the skin. Feels tight. If I catch it, it makes me jump!

Is it a whitlow possibly? Or if not then what else could it be? And what could I do to treat it? I’m currently soaking in salt water, applying aciclovar cream and trying not to touch it!!

I'd be sticking a sterile pin in that, take the pressure off, but I couldn't actually recommend that wink

Then I'd be keeping it very clean and putting a plaster on it for a couple of days.

You need magnesium sulphate on that, it'll draw it out.

Thanks both. It’s actually progressed in the last day or two.

I started antibiotics yesterday after seeing a pharmacist who thought it might be infected. GP had to prescribe them though she said she wasn’t sure what it was based on the photos I sent.

It’s incredibly painful, red and very firm. No pus at all, nothing to drain.

I’ve taken a new photo with magnification and better light - attached!

There are the flat brown sort of marks (for want of a better description) and the surrounding area is swollen, red and very firm.

Any ideas?!
