Cough help - getting worse not better but no chance of a GP appt today!

I was ill (suspect covid) 2 weeks ago. Since then, I've had a nasty cough - to start with I was coughing up lovely yellow gunk but it's progressively got less productive and more irritating. Last night I had a massive coughing fit that made my eyes water and today I've woken up with my chest feeling like I've just inhaled a lungful of smoke - it just feels really irritated. Otherwise I feel fine, no temperature or anything like that, just this cough that won't shift.

Absolutely no chance of a GP appointment today, I don't even have time to make the phone call (I've got to take one of my DC to crown court where they have been called as a witness, it's non negotiable that I go, and nobody else can take them).

What can I buy from a large supermarket pharmacy this morning that will help? I just keep coughing and coughing, it's making my whole chest kind of rattle/boom when I cough. Sounds horrific 😬

Go and speak to the pharmacist (or counter assistants) at the pharmacy. They’ll be able to advise you.

I strongly suspect they'll take one listen to me coughing and tell me I need to see a GP - it truly sounds awful. But yes, I will definitely ask them if there's anything they suggest until I can get to a GP.
